2016 has been mired with unfortunate outcomes and general disdain of all sorts. Be it political, cultural or otherwise, most will remember this year as one overflowing with losses. But that’s just not true. There’s goodness happening everyday. Some taking place as we speak, and admirably in companion with sneaker culture.

Jacques Slade recently caught up with Los Angeles Lakers forward Julius Randle to talk hoops, sneakers and most importantly, a new green laces initiative spearheaded by Dicks Sporting Goods to help bring awareness to and support youth sports.

Dicks, through their Sports Matter program, aims at saving and enhancing youth sports. For most of us who grew up loving basketball, youth programs were often times our only outlet. And although Randle is now playing for one of the most popular sports franchises in the world, he too once leaned heavily on similar programs as a vital component to his safe upbringing and love for the game.

Check out the clip below as Randle talks about his first dunk in 6th grade, hooping in Hyperdunks and Kobes, his mom taking him to the city center to play basketball when he was young and why supporting the green laces initiative is important to him. Head over to Dicks to grab a pair of green laces of your own to support this worthy case.
