Running has a new meaning now more than ever as people all over the world are hitting the streets in an array of ways. No matter your relationship with running, the perfect shoe is needed to help you get started or help you speed through your personal bests. The HOKA ONE ONE Clifton Edge is perfect for the long haul. The shoe serves as the ideal bank to log in your miles thanks to its responsive cushioning and lightness on the upper. The shoe comes in at around 8.93 oz. (size 9) even with its enlarged heel.

So how well does the shoe perform? Read for yourself below.

The Clifton Edge features the brand’s signature components. The brand is known for its rocker system that eases the heel-to-toe transition when running. The protruding heel adds to the sensation as its cushioning is sturdy enough to support you and responsive enough to provide a spring to your pace.

The heel comes in at a 5 mm drop which seems like that standard as more running shoes look to prioritize running economy by adding more responsive technology. The Clifton Edge takes it a step further by adding layers of its response technology.

The upper also features a hint of reflective material on the tongue and heel to help runners (and cars/bikes) out when sharing the road. It’s a nice and subtle detail that aesthetically looks great aside from its functionality.

The upper also has a breathable construction that allows airflow to come naturally. Personally, I’m more of a fan of mesh than typical knit. The Clifton Edge is great because it keeps your feet cool, but has the perfect amount of structure that you don’t even feel the shoe when you run. The tongue of the shoe is built into it which is designed for an easier adjustment. I personally prefer the tongue to be separate from the shoe, but the tongue is sleek enough to not be an issue.

The heel of the shoe is great for ankle support because of its angled shape. It doesn’t rub your Achilles but it’s sturdy enough to support you on your run.

After logging in 15 miles on three different runs, the Clifton Edge is a perfect base shoe. It’s light and responsive enough which is ideal in the Arizona summers. The heel is so eye-catching that it looks great in action as well.
