Before Heron Preston made a name for himself with his emerging eponymous brand, the youthful style aficionado was making waves with Virgil Abloh and Matthew Williams with Been Trill. There was both the brand and the DJ collective, for which they would often times wear the same clothes. Preston typically referred to them as a modern-day boy band.
But even before Been Trill, Preston traveled a conventional path in fashion hierarchy: he worked for a brand. For years, Preston worked as a part of the Nike Communications team. At the end of that five-year at Nike, Preston went on to work with Kanye West to help him design adidas YEEZY Season 1.
Now Heron’s own line is generating the buzz YEEZY once did. So much in fact that his old employer came calling.
Preston’s first collaborative project with Nike orbits the often unseen Huarache E.D.G.E. And while this choice may seem a bit off-center, it’s an ideal selection for a budding brand with a founder who was the industry insight Preston does.
“Having worked at Nike and understanding the full breadth of product categories the brand has to offer, I wanted to be the person to take on the challenge of identifying and celebrating new stuff,” Preston said in a statement.
Debuted in two colorways during Preston’s fall/winter 2019 Paris Fashion Week presentation, a high-arching bootie protrudes from the mid-cut shoe that resides above a pod-like base. Translucency plays a role in the design as small windows attached to the eyelets join with reflective details on the lateral siding. The modernized running silhouette is also equipped with Preston’s brand logo near the quarter panel.
Expect the Heron Preston x Nike Huarache E.D.G.E. to release exclusively in the US on February 1.
