To the delight of many, the Air Jordan 5 “Grape” returns tomorrow. While this OG Air Jordan 5 is full of nostalgia, its story is different than most. Why are these kicks so popular? When did they last come out? Where can you get them? Find out all the above in this installment of Everything You Need to Know.

Release History

1990

The Air Jordan 5 “Grape” released in 1990. The only OG Air Jordan 5 colorway not to be worn by Michael Jordan in an NBA game, the shoe deviated from the standard Chicago colors much like the “Military Blue” 4s before them. A corresponding collection of apparel launched with the sneakers, sporting the grape and new emerald tones.

2006

In the fall of 2006, the Air Jordan 5 retroed for the first time in the “Grape” colorway. An L’Style release, the shoe was limited in availability and hard to get. Such distribution was unusual for an OG colorway, only making the shoe harder to obtain and thus more sought after.
