One hundred and two years ago, an English immigrant by the name of William J. Riley founded New Balance in Cambridge, MA. Though not planning to create one of the top athletic footwear companies a century later, Riley was determined to help improve our balance with his arch supports. Riley’s inspiration came from his humble surroundings of a chicken yard where he observed that the 3-clawed bird had perfect balance. His hope – that his designs inspired by the chicken’s foot could provide “new balance” to his customers.

Next month, New Balance is releasing the “Chicken Run” 1400 that pays respects to the company’s foundation by using representative details throughout the shoe. Across the toe cap and continuing down the side of the shoe depicting a chicken morphing into a runner. These sneakers are constructed down the road from Cambridge, MA in the New England factories of New Balance – that’s right, Made in USA.

Look for these beginning April 1st for $150 at premier New Balance retailers.
