Skechers has signed a horse to an endorsement deal. Before you laugh, consider that California Chrome isn’t just any horse. The American thoroughbred is the most recent winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, and will go for the first Triple Crown in 36 years this weekend at the Belmont Stakes. In the midst of the horse’s rewarding run, Skechers is  getting in on the action by inking the horse to a deal, rather than following the traditional route and endorsing its jockey. Skechers has admitted that it is targeting an older audience, and will be the featured brand on what could be a historical sports figure to many generations.

California Chrome and its team members will don the “S” logo throughout the entire event (previewed above and below by Angie A. Stevens), including when they are in the winner’s circle should he earn the Triple Crown. Skechers is also allowed to use the horse’s brand in marketing materials for a month after the race. Terms of the deal are undisclosed, but it’s easy to assume that it’s enough to buy a lot of sugar cubes. Tell us what you think of the unconventional move in the comment section below, and keep racing to Nice Kicks for all of your sneaker news and information.
