History of the Colorway

The Air Jordan 6 “Carmine” is one of the most storied colorways in sneaker history. Michael Jordan first laced up the white, carmine red and black colorway during the 1991-1992 season, his first title defense after winning the NBA Championship, cementing the shoe’s place in basketball lore forever. Jordan Brand brought the colorway back in 2008 as part of the Countdown Pack bundled alongside the Air Jordan 17, a release that was largely limited to collectors due to its packaged format.

The Carmine 6s finally got their standalone moment in 2014, marking the first solo retro of the colorway and introducing an updated Jumpman heel and an icy blue outsole to a new generation of sneaker fans. Then in 2021, Jordan Brand delivered what many considered the most significant retro yet by restoring the original Nike Air branding on the heel for the first time since 1991, a move that sent the sneaker community into a frenzy. Now in 2027, the Carmine 6s are back once again for another chapter in one of the most celebrated colorway stories in Air Jordan history.
