Jordan Brand Celebrates Jackie Robinson with Commemorative Air Jordan 5 Cleat

On Opening Day on April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson made history & changed the game by becoming the first Black player in Major League Baseball.

The league celebrated Jackie and his undeniable legacy with Jackie Robinson Day in 2004 where all players, coaches, managers, and umpires wear Robinson’s 42. For nearly 20 years, Jackie Robinson Day has been a tradition that is celebrated beyond the plate.

In celebration of Jackie Robinson Day, Jordan Brand created a commemorative Air Jordan 5 Cleat for its Jordan Brand athletes. The Air Jordan 5 “Jackie Robinson” Cleat PE draws inspiration from his iconic 1948 rookie card — further tying back to his barrier-breaking debut. Other details include sail accents, a graded card-esque heel tab, his signature 42 number, and “Respect Me as a Human Being” on the inner tongue across both shoes deriving from his famous quote: “I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me. All I ask is that you respect me as a human being.”

The Air Jordan 5 “Jackie Robinson” Cleat PE won’t ever see a retail release, so for now we’ll just tip our cap in appreciation.

Take a detailed look at the pair below and keep it locked on Nice Kicks on Instagram and the Air Jordan release dates page to stay on top of the latest news and drops.
