Jordan 3 Citrus: The Story Behind the Sample
Some sneakers earn their legend on the court. The Jordan 3 Citrus earned its legacy in a vault. Back in 2007, a period when the Jumpman was quietly experimenting with unexpected lifestyle colorways far removed from the OG palette, Jordan Brand’s LS era unveilved a women’s sample featuring a crisp white leather upper dipped in vibrant orange citrus elephant print. Bold, clean, and ahead of its time. The pair never made it to retail, shelved and forgotten by everyone except the sneaker community, where it quietly became one of those grail references that collectors passed around in forums and messages for years. The only known public survivor? A single sample that landed in the hands of Index Portland, the legendary consignment shop with a habit of surfacing product the rest of the world never got to see. For nearly two decades, that was the closest anyone could get to owning the Jordan Citrus 3. Now, almost 20 years after that sample was sketched out and scrapped, Jordan Brand is finally pulling it from the archives and giving it a proper release.
Citrus 3s 2026: Design Details
What makes this release hit different is that Jordan Brand did the work to make sure the execution matches it. Start with the upper as the Jordan 3 is dressed in tumbled leather, a textured, slightly pebbled finish that carries a richness you don’t get from the smoother leather used on more standard releases. It’s the kind of material choice that separates a thoughtful drop from a mass-market one.
From there, the same bold graphic elephant print texture that defines every great Air Jordan 3 is now drenched in the warm orange citrus colorway that takes over the overlays and collar. It pops against the clean white base without screaming for attention, the way a well-designed sneaker should. The red Jumpman on the tongue is a small detail but an important one that gives a quiet callback to the Fire Red DNA that runs through the Jordan 3 lineage, grounding the colorway in the model’s heritage while letting the orange do the talking. Grey TPU support pieces frame the midfoot on both sides, adding structure and a neutral counterweight to keep the palette from tipping into chaos. Lastly, an orange-accented outsole ties the whole thing together.
This is what it looks like when a sample that spent almost 20 years collecting dust finally gets the release it was always owed. The craft was there in 2007. Now the world gets to wear it.
