He Got Game isn’t regarded as Spike Lee’s best film. More universally loved and critically acclaimed titles like Do The Right Thing, Mo Betta Blues, Malcolm X, and his first full-length feature film, She’s Gotta Have It, often take those reigns.
He Got Game is, however, everyone’s favorite Spike Lee film. For an absurd amount of viewers, there was no better basketball film in their generation, Hoop Dreams, a documentary, aside. The cultural commonality in the 1998-released film rings true for many, basketball and sneaker purists by in large. So much in fact for the latter, there is more than one sneaker nicknamed after the film itself.
The most popular is the Air Jordan 13 “He Got Game,” which new reports today indicate will release next year in celebration of the film’s 20th anniversary. The picture originally released on May 1, 1998, so it’s to imagine that the retro could take place sometime next spring. Stay tuned for more details.
