On Monday April 18th, the 2022 Boston Marathon kicked off in Massachusetts. The adidas athletics roster took home major wins as Evans Chebet and Peres Jepchirchir both placed first in the 126th Boston Marathon. Both runners crossed the finish line wearing the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 2.0 shoes.

Jepchirchir completed the marathon in just a little over two hours at 2:21:01. The Kenyan runner also made history as the first athlete to ever win an Olympic marathon gold medal, New York City Marathon, and Boston Marathon. Chebet also hails from Kenya and completed the marathon in just a little over two hours at 2:06:51.

Being that women weren’t allowed to race in the Boston Marathon until 1972, Jepchirchir’s historic win feels extra special. Both Jepchirchir and adidas hope to inspire the next generation of female athletes. The day before the marathon, adidas celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Women’s division in the event by inviting five of the original eight women who ran in the first official Women’s field in Boston in 1972. The women hosted a panel where they shared their experiences as boundary-breaking athletes. One of the original eight, Valerie Rogosheske, even participated in this year’s marathon, running the race at 75-years-old.

Congrats to Evans Chebet and Peres Jepchirchir for taking home first place wins for the adidas athletics team.
