With the holiday season just around the corner, adidas Originals is dropping some sneaker heat: a pair of Stan Smiths inspired by the 1984 cult classic film, Gremlins.
Aptly dubbed “Christmas Monster,” these Stan Smiths will surely resonate with both sneakerheads and film fanatics all over the world. The Three Stripes’ signature silhouette gets dressed up in a furry brown and cream-colored faux fur/suede outfit, which is based on the loveable character, Gizmo.
The aforementioned tones are split asymmetrically on both feet, while Mogwai’s eyes are featured on the heels. In terms of branding, adidas forgoes any Three Stripes insignias on the medial panels or tongues, however, the insole and midsole don’t get overlooked. Additionally found on the scaly green insoles (another nod to the Gremlins) are instructions for the creatures: don’t expose them to light, don’t allow them to come into contact with water, and finally don’t feed them after midnight.
adidas takes things one step further as the sneakers are coated with waterproof GORE-TEX technology, so you can wear them out in the rain or snow. To round out the final details, the sneakers come packaged in a gift-wrapped box that matches the present the film’s main character Billy receives.
Look for the Gremlins x adidas Originals Stan Smith “Christmas Monster” to release at select retailers such as 43einhalb and adidas.com on December 19. The pair will retail for $120.
