With inspiration from the NBA’s all-time leader scoring and one of its most prominent philanthropists and thought-provoking leaders, adidas and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar today unveils the brands Black History Month Collection. A first for the German-based company, this limited edition offering revolves around African-American heritage and details that provide a step-by-step journal through the four most important eras of Kareem’s legendary and monumental basketball tenure.
The four-piece collection consists of the J Wall 1, D Rose 5 Boost, D Lillard 1 and the Crazy 8. Each model features a foundational theme and comes fashioned in sepia tones coupled with its own unique inspiration quote. adidas athletes will wear the collection on Martin Luther King Jr. Day games on January 19th, and during select games throughout the month of February to pay homage to African-American culture and role models like the one many athletes share in Kareem.
The collection drops at adidas.com with the Crazy 8 ($110) launching January 23, J Wall 1 ($115) and D Rose 5 Boost ($140) on January 30 and D Lillard 1 ($105) on February 6. A portion of the proceeds from this inaugural Black History Month Collection will be donated to Kareem’s Sky Hook Foundation, created to enhance the lives of unprivileged youth.
