So Cal, the music video for “Vans” by The Pack saw the mainstream introduction of Lil B and Too $hort tossing Air Force 1s in a trash can. Ranked the #5 song of 2006 by Rolling Stone, the track got heavy rotation on radio and even endorsement from the mixtape Weezy. Though not a commercial, its product promoting lyrics were enough for MTV to censor the word “Vans” from the video. A “Banned” 1-esque moment? One could argue so, as the “punk rock shoe” started to pop with hip-hop heads and the mainstream, flying out of Journeys stores in more than just Cali all while remaining authentic to their OG skate style.
