Converse, quiet as kept, has two of the best ongoing collaborative series in sneakers. One, largely of commercial consumption, is their union with Rei Kawakubo’s COMME des GARÇONS seen through the Chuck 70. And, although a tad newer, is the partnership with British designer JW Anderson.
The latter serves as an enforcing creative outlet allowing Anderson to reshape and transform time-honored silhouettes with great liberty. For his spring/summer 2019 output, Anderson turns his all-knowing eye towards the Run Star Hike.
Although that title may sound foreign, the makeup of this silhouette is relatively familiar. The upper features remnants of the Chuck Taylor and the canvas framing that’s been around since the ’70s. And, too, the rubberized toecap and midsole which is partially seen above an extended sole unit with ridged gripping mechanisms at the forefoot and heel.
JW Anderson’s Converse series takes expression to greater heights — which is both literally and physically seen with the Run Star Hike. Look for the shoe in white on January 16 at Anderson’s webshop for $155.
Update 2/8: If you missed out on the exclusive release of JW Anderson’s latest Converse collaboration last month on his webstore, a wider release of the Run Star Hike is set to drop on Converse.com come February 12.
Update 4/11: Last season’s JW Anderson x Converse Run Star Hike is back for summer 2019 with a traditional black colorway. The famed Chuck 70 is back too, this time in stars and stripes. Both budding JW Anderson pairs will be available on April 18.
