Nike Goes Country With Some Stylish Belts & Buckles

Nike is set to re-ignite a storied chapter in its design vault with the highly anticipated return of the Nike Country Belt, launching July 30, 2025. Undeniably rooted in nostalgia, this accessory returns for the first time since its 2003 release under creative direction by Bob Smith.

A Legacy Forged in Leather & Heritage

The origins of the Nike Country Belt date back to 1976, when Geoff Hollister, Nike’s early artisan who began working for co-founder Phil Knight in 1967, crafted the inaugural Nike Country logo buckle. Hollister’s vision was a rustic, Western inspired design that spoke both to the spirit of Oregon’s outdoors and the brand’s youthful, frontier pushing ethos. The rich, embossed leather strap featured motifs like Oregon Trail embellishments, such as Mt. Hood and ocean waves, that underscored that regional pride. Notably, the logo had to be redrawn twice – once in 1978 when the original was lost, and again in 2003, ahead of its final release before the hiatus. That 2003 revival, with Bob Smith steering the redesign, marked the belt’s most recent expression until now.

What’s New for 2025?

This year’s release updates the vintage icon appropriately for the modern era without compromising its craft pedigree:
•    Three refined styles:
•    Classic black leather + silver buckle
•    Brown leather + gold buckle (echoing original ’03 vibe)
•    Accent black leather + bedazzled buckle for those craving flash
•    Leather straps are now embossed with “Nike Sportswear” on the reverse, a nod to both heritage and identity.
•    Girder like buckle backs feature a tiny sneaker prong, styled after Nike Dunks or Air Force 1s, bridging retro style with modern sport DNA.

The Nike Country belt is more than an accessory, it’s a storyteller. From its handcrafted leather detailing and Oregon?themed embossing to its Western-style buckle and sneaker?shaped prong, every aspect invites reflection on Nike’s early legacy as a boutique, regional brand turned global icon.
