As the world becomes more and more transparent, companies are beginning to feel the pressure to make their production more sustainable to the environment. With that in mind, Nike has teamed up with MIT to create new ways of sourcing materials for their production. Taking shape in the form of a competition, the initiative is entitled Materials Matter. Within this contest, contestants will exhibit physical, social and cultural innovations that could help transform the way materials are utilized. In addition, these innovations can be in the form of actions that influence consumer behavior and design choices.

This contest will feature a $10,000 cash prize and ultimate bragging rights for the sneakerhead that doubles as an engineering savant by night. Either way, head over to the Material Matters contest site to enter and read up more about the project over at MIT NEWS.
