Sneaker Pimps 2009

The NY show has quite the lineup of not just performers, but also a solid set of DJ’s and artists.

Yeah, for us, our Sneaker Pimps New York shows are the crown jewel of the tour – what we do is we make it the biggest show of the year and build off of last years show to make it bigger and better.

So last year we had Nas, EPMD, Slick Rick – this year we have Big Boi from OutKast, Clipse, The Cool Kids, Wale and we are still adding our major headliner who people are going to be PSYCHED about seeing.

We also have a Zoo York skate demo going down at the show – live artist installs by Clawmoney, Tokidoki, Jor One and other dope acts.

In addition to soaking in a ton of rare sneakers, art, and music, can people buy shoes at the show?

Yeah man we have about 20 or so vendors who come in and sell kicks, streetwear, grills.? And actually our presenting sponsor Verizon Wireless will be selling BlackBerry’s and other phones, plus dope accessories for your phones at a good discount – so there are a lot of different products available at the show.

It may be hard to define, but what for you makes a successful show?

The last show we did in Miami, we were checking Twitter during the event to see what people were actually twittering about at the event and one of the comments that stuck out in my mind was some kid was like “yo at sneaker pimps mia and i’m falling in love with hip-hop again..this is DOPPE.”? It was really rad to hear that because the line up was sick – the show was sold out – The Cool Kids were killing it on stage with Clipse and it was such an electric atmosphere…. hearing comments like this at a sold out show makes it a successful show for me..

I have noticed that nearly from the beginning Sneaker Pimps has some major sponsors of the tour.? Do you find it hard to work in major corporate sponsors to have something active and engaging to the attendees at a sneaker event?

For the most part it has been really good working with corporate sponsors – for instance our sponsorship deal with Verizon Wireless on this USA Tour has been amazing – here is the largest cellular provider in the US supporting such a REAL sneaker/ hip-hop series of events, but not only the support, they came to us loving what we were doing and asking how they could be a part of the event, rather than dictating to us what their agenda is – the result is an amazing installation that includes text message battles, where we have given winners a pair of Yeezys and other prizes, themed Verizon Wireless shoe boxes and cool showcases of products they have coming out.

The TXT MSG battles are the illest though!! people love doing that at the show and it makes for another dope element of the event that people can participate in.

Thank you again for taking the time out of your busy schedule to speak with us.

No doubt – peace!
