Nike Hyperdunk 2015 Release News

Marty McFly Nike Hyperdunk 2015The Hyperdunk, designed by Nike creative director Eric Avar, is one of the lightest and most innovative basketball footwear products Nike has ever produced. Debuting on the feet of Nike athlete Kobe Bryant on April 10th, the Hyperdunk will hit retail outlets in the U.S. on July 27th. While designing the Hyperdunk shoe, Avar took design inspiration from a Nike concept shoe created in the late 80’s for movie character Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) in the film Back to the Future II. The shoes were created through a licensing agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group. Looking at the Hyperdunk’s overall shape, distinctive heel counter and midsole, these features all hearken back to this original concept shoe.

As part of the launch, Nike will introduce limited colorways leading up to the retail debut of the Hyperdunk. One of those limited products is the Hyperdunk 2015.

The Hyperdunk 2015 will continue this tribute to the original concept shoe by borrowing some of the iconic coloring that made the shoes so striking. The upper of the Hyperdunk 2015 features the same matte grey and white colors that appeared on the original. It also features the grey and teal speckled midsole that jumped off Marty McFly’s original footwear, as well as glow in the dark panels that give the shoe a futuristic feel.

Additionally the Hyperdunk 2015 will feature call outs to the film including graphics from McFly’s hover board on the sock liner and a few more subtle references for people to discover on their own.

You will be able to find the Hyperdunk 2015 at Nike House of Hoops (in NYC) as well as Niketown and other select Nike retailers this Saturday, July 12th for $200. Check out more pics after the jump.

  5. No Niketowns in Texas!!! And every other place is being selfish and doesn’t want to sell or ship to any other state. That’s real weak Nike.

  12. The Marty McFly took over the internet today. I saw almost 230 searches come to my site for Air McFly and so forth. Yahoo even had it featured on the front page (I’m surprise Digg.com didn’t pick this up too). Imagine my surprise when I went to the Yahoo home page and saw the Marty McFly link on the front.

Too bad the article didn’t point to any sneaker blogs. I think they should have given props to the sneaker sites who showed the info weeks before it becme popular.

Heck they didn’t even say that the sneakers will come to NYC this weekend! What a shame! I’m glad we have sites like Nicekicks and others who put footwear first.

Gees, their nice, but not for $200..! I don’t think so, homey don’t play that!!!

    Comment by oldjumpman35 — July 11, 2008 @ 12:08 am

  20. from what i heard, theres only 1 other nt thats getting em. yeah they passed out wristbands already at la. mad crazy!!!! cops came by every hr, couldnt keep a blanket or a chair, had to sit on the marble or stand up for about 15-16hrs. ended up being over 130+ heads up there…half looked like they didnt even know what was going on, just wanted a quick buck,,fools acted like they wanted to fight..it was a bad look

    Comment by gold — July 11, 2008 @ 12:16 am

  21. wow. 200 and crazy waits surrounded by retards. i will just buy fake ones when they come out for less than $50.

I don’t feel bad for wearing fakes… Nike outsources to China, they overprice their shoes, and produce “limited” editions for hype. Nike will quadruple their profits with a shoe that costs peanuts to make.

    Comment by lubfakes — July 11, 2008 @ 12:30 am

  22. gold:

that’s crazy! how did heads know that ntla was getting hooked up that early? news just broke hours ago. i was the bitter dude who got shafted at undftd. this hype has gone mad national mainstream.

hahaha! the site of a bunch of angry hypebeasts in beverly hills cracks me up.

so i shouldn’t even bother trying ntla?

    Comment by glen mac — July 11, 2008 @ 1:55 am

  23. are you hypebeast serious? Only people waiting for shiat like this are poor folks trying to make a quick buck. Who the f**k got time to be standing 15+ hrs and fighting people over shoes. Dumba** ghetto/hypebeasting kids making a few bucks. I waited for shoes once at HUFSF for the quake, not ever doing that shiat again, I wasted money I could have been doing overtime at my work! Please these shoes are garbage, Kobe a great player but a fresh pair of Jordan trump these anyday, and I could care less they glow in the dark! Buy some LA Gears lights if you want your shoes to bling, or those DaDa with the spinners on the heel freaking ghetto I swear! I pay a little extra to have a peice of mind, get your game up and pull those 40+ hours, my M3 trumps any nike on yo ghetto kids feet

  24. yeah, waiting in line for sneaks is stupid. but these kix are dope.

    Comment by glen mac — July 11, 2008 @ 2:18 am

  25. SneakRick U got hate in ur blood. Of course u wasted money, u were waiting on a pair of quakes!!! All of us who wait in line for sneakers are not ghetto, we’re sneaker heads. U got some on line that wanna make a quick buck but even some of them are not ghetto. They have money and lots of it. I could’ve gone ghetto in my comment but i’m better than that. I’m so hood!!!! and very f#@$%n proud of it.

  37. Isn’t the whole point that the shoes automatically lace themselves? These look like you have to tie them. Booo.

    Comment by con — July 12, 2008 @ 5:12 pm

  38. 2 1/2 days….that’s how long heads have been waiting @ house of hoops in the big apple.

i was @ the undftd santa monica release and i got totally shafted. i was there for 12 hrs, i think the first cat was there for about 24 hrs. it was mad unorganized, peeps were cutting in line when kobe showed up an hour late in the delorean. twas a mess, no wristbands or anything, ridiculous. then they raffle off the last 10 pair, and of course, some people who show up 15 minutes prior win a pair.

i hear it was also a bad look @ NTLA when they were passing out wristbands. peeps were getting salty, cops were by every hour. heads had to sit on the marble cause i imagine the stuffy city of beverly hills would’nt allow chairs or the appearance of camping.

the hyperdunk mcfly hype has hit a critical mass, it’s hitting every hipster blog, yahoo, wired mag, news outlet, you name it. i haven’t seen this much hype since the titanium or the pigeon. i didn’t see this one coming.

i don’t know how i feel about it…it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. i’m addicted to sneakers but at the same time i feel like i need to grow up and leave this bullsh*t. these kicks have hit $1,900 on ebay. that is effin madness and makes me utterly sick.

people don’t get marketing. nike could have made more of these mcfly’s and they would have easily gotten consumed by all of us and would have made more money than doing a limited release…but by making them limited, it creates a buzz and hype that is utterly priceless. i wouldn’t call it genius but it’s pretty damn clever.

i’m banking that the nike marketing gurus didn’t even see this one coming. i’m willing to bet that they are surprised at the level of success and buzz of this one.

    Comment by glen mac — July 12, 2008 @ 6:01 pm

  39. c’mon Mr. Hatfield! if u made McFly a pair of the actual 2015s u can release them right? these Fly i guess, likin the OG powerlaces more than these though… just my thought

  40. Are these going to all the shoe stores all over, or just to Nike? It’s worth the money to own a pair of Back to the Future shoes! Please let me know! :D
