John Mayer is Dropping His Unofficial Nike Air Max 90 Collaboration This Week

When it comes to incredible sneaker collections with rare and grailworthy menswear pieces to match, few are on the level of John Mayer. With just as many Nikes as visvim FBTs, and just as much ACRONYM as Stone Island, Mayer is a collector and, apparently, a do it yourselfer too.

In a recent interview with GQ, Mayer alluded to an unofficial Nike collaboration he was working on via NIKEiD, an easier collaborative route as opposed to partnering with Nike in an official capacity. Mayer designed an Air Max 90 on the iD platform then purchased every single pair that Nike would sell him. He in turn plans to sell them on his own.

“I’m just waiting for it to get discontinued on their site,” Mayer told GQ. “And I’m going to offer it as my own shoe through my Shopify page. Just for fun!”

The Nike Air Max 90 “Spirit Level” aka the “Air Mayer” is largely filled in grey, black and white shades, with a neon green glow flowing through the Visible Air, which Mayer equates with the leveling instrument often used measure household items and hang decor.

His Instagram post vindicating the shoe alludes to a July 29 release date. Only thing is, we don’t really know how many pairs Mayer was able to purchase from Nike. Your best bet is to air on the side of caution and assume they will be limited.
