Tommie Smith 200M Puma Clydes
|
With his fist clenched tightly covered in a black leather glove, Tommie Smith put on display in front of the world the complications of race, politics, and sports in America in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement. Smith’s golden achievement was notable beyond the unforgettable image as the National Anthem was played. At the 1968 Mexico City Games, Tommie Smith won Gold while setting a new world record in the 200M with a time of 19.83 seconds. Beyond his achievement at the Mexico City Olympics, Tommie Smith is the only man in track and field history to hold eleven world records simultaneously and went on to play professional football for the Cincinnati Bengals. In 1978, Tommie Smith was elected into the National Track & Field Hall of Fame. A tribute to this brave athlete and his favorite pair of Puma sneakers, the Clyde. Puma is re-releasing the Puma Clydes he wore while atop the medal stand with the additions of a metallic gold leather lining, an embossed gold medal, Mexico City reference on the sockliner & lateral and the tongue labels display his record breaking time of 19.83 s in the 200M race. The second pair produced is completely gold with embossed medals on the upper and lined with black leather to represent the black leather glove Tommie Smith wore while raising his clenched fist. These aren’t due out until August, but you can be sure to hear more about these from us. Photos thats to Limiteditions. |
Santa Cruz “Screaming Hand” Puma First Rounds
Prior we reported on the Santa Cruz “Screaming Hand” Puma First Rounds, but we now have recieved some better detailed shots. The Screaming Hand is perhaps the most iconic & legendary graphic to emerge from skateboard culture over the last 30 years. Created by Jim Phillips, legendary rock poster artist & art director for Santa Cruz skateboards from 1975 – 1990, this release is a tribute to Jim, our friends at Santa Cruz and all the skaters that rocked PUMA’s back in the day.
First unleashed in 1987, the Screaming Hand graphic became an instant classic within the skate community and counter culture in general. The First Round Hi features a blue nubuck upper with a glossy 3D screen-print highlighting the black line-work found on the Screaming Hand graphic. The heel has a molded silicon Screaming Hand graphic and the sockliner sports an enlarged version of the graphic. Other features include a pearlized patent formstripe & collar, blood and veins leather lining, embroidered Santa Cruz logo on the tongue and 4 lace options. Barcelona based heads can get their fix of these from Limiteditions. Word around the web is that these will release early next month, but stay tuned for more details. |
No Mas x Puma First Round “The Lottery” NYC
Twenty-three years ago New York won professional basketball’s very first draft lottery. With their first round selection in 1985, the blue and orange chose a player who would be the foundation of the team for the next fifteen years. Although that seven-footer did not ultimately bring New York City a championship, he injected energy and grit into a listless franchise and gave us a team that was worthy of New York’s passion for basketball.
Twenty three years after winning the controversial lottery drawing that brought the city a center of gravity, New York once again finds itself in desperate need of some good fortune. Professional Basketball’s official drawing is on this coming Tuesday the 20th. On Monday, May 19th, we will gather to pray to the gods of the lottery balls at Classic Kicks and appease their spirits with the launch of a limited edition New York colorway of the PUMA X No Mas First Round. This drawing follows up on last year’s successful interactive art exhibition by No Mas founder Chris Isenberg who creates sports inspired art, apparel, and media equally devoted to “the thrill of victory and the ecstasy of defeat.” Participants in the lottery will be eligible to win a seven foot portrait of New York’s former captain–the first ever lottery selection. To participate RSVP to lottery@nomas-nyc.com. The New York Colorway of the PUMA X No Mas First Round will be available beginning at 5:00PM on May 19th at only at Classic Kicks. Classic Kicks |
Puma Basket II Bode “Cheech Wizard”
This weekend Puma’s home country of Germany will be treated to the latest Bode x Puma project with three pairs of Cheech Wizard Puma Basket II’s. It was only a year ago that the Bode “Cheech Wizard” Puma Clydes released in two colors covered in the all over star pattern resembling the Cheech’s wizard hat.
The star pattern is still prevalent on the exterior of the Bode Baskets, but depicted through glossy paint the same color of the upper. Complimenting the glossy finish, the Puma stripe on the side of the shoes is made of patent leather. Each pair comes laced with three colors of shoelaces that have the star pattern carried to the lace tips. The interior of the shoe features the signatory print and Cheech Wizard sits on the tongue replacing the Puma cat logo. The Bode “Cheech Wizard” Puma Basket II’s will release tomorrow, Saturday, May 17th at The Good Will Out in Cologne, Germany for 90€. We will keep you posted with updates we receive about these sneakers releasing Stateside. |
