More than a decade removed from his first Nike Air Max 1 collaboration, in 2005, and almost 10 years separate from its follow-up four years later, Dutch artist Parra this weekend is set to release his latest installment with Nike.

Adding to a legacy that helped shape the very nature of sneaker collaboration, Parra serves as a central figure in said movement given his duality as an artist and a design thought leader. Always coming back to the Air Max 1 – even 13 years later — Piet Parra’s design is focused on the revival of the City Pack theory that shaped his earliest works with the brand. Parra, too, has produced a similar Zoom Spiridon that will release in tandem with the AM1.

And so, both city and countryside are represented within this whimsical, cloud-filled style that maneuvers patterns in the same clever manner in which it does hue. Parra’s name marks that shoe like a great artist tagging his work. It’s joined in symmetry by a miniature Swoosh.

The release, which takes place tomorrow, July 21, at select retailers like Foot District, is intrinsically what drives sneaker collaboration. Harkening back to history, stories, and designers who helped open doors for others to perform similar tasks, stands as a pivoting point for the culture as it equally represents a place of inception.
