Nike’s “On Air” collection comes into clearer view today on the holiday it was meant to serve — Air Max Day.

The Air Max 98 set to honor the collection was designed by Gabrielle Serrano, who uses her talents to represent the many shades of themes that make New York City one of the most culturally diverse cities in the country.

Meant to embody the diversity in the city, the shoe features a gradient fade woven throughout the upper to reference the many ethnicities and cultures seen throughout New York population.

Mint green accents seen throughout the shoe are present in an ode to Lady Liberty, among the most towering figures in the city. Moreover, Serrano applies a crackled grey leather mudguard to showcase a parallel to the city’s battered and worn streets.

Take a detailed look at the Serrano’s Nike Air Max 98 “La Mezcla” below and count on the drop this April.
