Over the course of the year, Rick Owens has seen his contemporary DRKSHDW sneaker rejuvenated. The fashion staple is again trending in street culture, thanks largely to individual cases — the most notable one being Playboi Carti referencing and wearing the shoe in the video for his smash hit “Magnolia.”
Striking while the iron is hot, Owens updates the shoe with knit sock construction lightening the bulky shoe with a lengthly almost knee-high sock knitted to perfection. The predominately black upper is offset by a white toe and matching midsole.
Of course, many will assert that this is an answer to Balenciaga’s Speed Trainer, which it very well may be. Yet Owen’s DRKSHDW came first, so any new variations shouldn’t bear the burden of other designer shoes that came after.
