My grail seems pretty cliché of a hypebeast, but it would have to be the Air Yeezy 2 Black/Solar Red. Since I’ve been admiring sneakers, I’ve never seen anything like it. The details and work Kanye and Nike put into the shoe are extraordinary to me, and it was an anticipated wait for me in trying to obtain them. I saved $300 to buy the shoe for $245 and then get next-day shipping so that I could get them as soon as possible. The day of the release, I signed up for Nike’s text notification. I was alert the entire day, but when the time came, the website crashed and I was unable to get the shoe. I’ve never been the one to mourn over a missed release but after seeing the “Out Of Stock” message on Nike, my heart had an empty void. After seeing the resell prices of $1800-$2500, I thought I wouldn’t be able to get them and I was right. I tried saving up that money, but I knew I couldn’t waste that kind of money on one pair of shoes. I just hope one day I can fulfill my sneakerhead dream of obtaining my prized possession, the Air Yeezy 2.
