Throwback Thursday - Patrick Ewing Rogue II
Fresh out of Georgetown, the first round pick and NCAA Champ Patrick Ewing inked a deal with the three stripes, but after only a few years he broke off to do his own thing. Patrick Ewing formed his own line of footwear and accessories under the umbrella of Ewing Athletics Company Ltd. that was distributed nationwide, but never caught on quite like the shoes the number 3 pick in the ‘84 draft (MJ). The brand stuck around for several years producing what are now vintage heads gems, but at the time were seen as skippies to many.
This pair is the Ewing Rogue II that many would argue was a take off on the Air Raid or Air Jordan 8 with the cross straps and even a Jordan 4 style lace tab near the ankle. For those who know their Ewings, the Rogue I came in several color ways, but the black/red/purple was very similar to that of the Jordan 7. Despite the troubled sales that eventually led to the falling out of this brand, there still is some beauty to these shoes including the speckled wavy midsoles and large contrasting logos on the tongue and heel. As with everything beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. |

I remember these i always thought the Ewings was nice and still feel these are some Gems too bad they don’t come with the blue or orange knee pads he wore back in the day they say Big Men shoes don’t sell that well but i would def have no problem with these compared to any of the big men sneaks out today Shaq, Yao Ming, Tim Duncan.

I personally don’t like these, not then or now, but quite a few of you do, you can get them on ebay right now, about three pairs had a $100 buy it now price on em’. There were only about six or seven pairs but they were all new in deadstock condition.

Thursdays are starting to be my favorite day of the week. Throwback Thursday has been crankin’ them outta the park as of late. I don’t think I would wear these now BUT it’s nice to stroll down memory lane.
They say big men can’t sell shoes, so that got me thinking. What was the most successful shoe endorsed by a big man?
Would it be one of Shaq’s Reebok Shoes? I smell another good Throwback Thursday.

Nice Kicks-
I was at Kicksburgh on Wednesday and I saw someone rocking the Shaqnosis shoe. I gotta give props to my girlfriend for spotting them. That was another blast from the past. I wanna see the Shaq pump shoes from his rookie year. Gotta love the black and blue colorway with the embroidered SHAQ logo on the back with the his siloutte of a 2 handed slam. CLASSIC!!!
Comment by TASJ7045 — April 18, 2008 @ 9:08 am
Damn kid! NiceKicks always bringing the fiyah joints! These did kinda bite on several J’s but I can’t help to have love for theses gems. Wish I could cop me a pair!

Comment by marcus the great — April 18, 2008 @ 9:25 am
they dont look bad at all, but they’re dangerously close to lookin like a pair of knock of Mike’s… and that would prolly keep them off my feet
Comment by marcus the great — April 18, 2008 @ 9:27 am
TASJ7045,
That specific pair is one of my fav’s from the 90’s. I remember how EVERY kid I knew was on to Shaq. He was coming in right as Mike was leaving and even my cousins just north of Chicago had mad Shaq stuff around the house.
Just think of how different things would have been for Reebok had they been able to keep Shaq and Kemp put down the powder…
Comment by Nice Kicks — April 18, 2008 @ 10:10 am
Some guys out of Canada just brought the rights to the Ewing Stuff. I have been waiting for the Shoes to retro since forever. Matt I feel as if you did this just for me. I will dance at your wedding!
My Kingdom for the Ewings from 1989. Remember the Kicks had not beaten the Celtics in Boston Garden since 1984. Game five Pat hit a three from the corner with Stu Jackson yelling, “Shoot it!” He was wearing that fresh Ewing of my dreams!
Comment by J.King — April 18, 2008 @ 10:12 am
Reebok chose to sever ties with Shaq because they wanted Iverson to be the focal point of their marketing. “Smart move, plus my lil’ brother loves your cartoon.”- Andre 3000
Comment by J.King — April 18, 2008 @ 10:14 am
wow these r amazing

Comment by MJSF — April 18, 2008 @ 11:20 am
If only I can go back in time in late 80s early 90s when sexy things like this came out. Now its the 21st century, and we gotta deal with Yums and Bapes…damn.
Comment by Aaron Peterson — April 18, 2008 @ 11:57 am
The released for the ‘90/’91 season while the Air Raids & VIIIs released in 91′& 92′…I wonder who actually had the design idea first? My guess is Nike did since smaller shoes companies are always “borrowing” the design of popular kicks.
Comment by nikeindabutt — April 18, 2008 @ 12:02 pm

Comment by Roy — April 19, 2008 @ 4:24 pm
He had one shoe back in the early 90s. I cant remember what yr, but they were high tops not mids. They had a stap around the back of them. They kinda resembled Nike’s Air Forces (not 1’s). They were fire! Everybody was rockin them when I was in Va. This was around the time when they were makin kicks in damn near every color, and they had them in every color. Also do anybody remember when Champion was makin some fly suede kicks back in the early 90’s, they had them in every color too. Damn I miss those days! They just dont make em like they used to…
