Team USA Men’s Basketball Event Recap
I am nearly lost for words getting to see the USA Olympic Team today. Nike put together an incredible event that will be remembered by many of the people in attendance. Posted after the jump are several (35 to be exact) photos from the day with brief captions.
Some shots that many of you should enjoy are the Olympic PEs for Lebron, Carmelo, Chris Paul, and the rest of the squad. |

Nike also did a little mini-contest where one side of the plaza received a new pair of kicks too. All got free T-shirts, thundersticks, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Everytime that I hear ppl throw dirt on big companies for “being all about the money” I always want to show them events like these where Nike goes above and beyond for the kids.

This squad is BANANAS! I’m so ready for August!
On another note, Nike loves that snug fitting design on the jerseys now days I see. Even my old High School, Riverside High - Durham, NC. wears the newly designed Nike jerseys and they fit that way as well.
As far as the Olympia’s, I always felt they’d be a “good looking shoe” hooping wise… don’t really like the idea of them though, but that colorway is pretty nice, as well as the gold ones.

Nice to see them do this but this is all marketing!! These kids wil offcourse remember this for a life time but at the same time are also most likely to buy Nike’s for the rest of their lives. Just a small investment for Nike. But hey that’s just how the economy/commercial companies works.
Kind of weak that they only have Nike players. The squad could have been better.

Comment by Jumpoffjune — July 1, 2008 @ 8:12 am
nice! can’t wait for the olympics. who was the one dunking? haha their jerseys look too tight (?) look like they’re wearing diving suits. lebron’s kicks are aight and a little too different from his other shoes. are you wearing socks under those jordans? haha
Comment by Ian — July 1, 2008 @ 8:20 am
Yeah missed D-Howard my bad but he rest is all nike owned.
Team is maybe a little thin up front.
Kobe will bring them the Gold though!

Well tell me an event where it isn’t mentioned what company or charitable organization is putting it on. If it were the YMCA putting it on there would be YMCA logos everywhere and that is marketing all the same.
Comment by Flatsole — July 1, 2008 @ 8:53 am
man who cares about advertising and marketing, as long as you see more than one happy kid, just one, more than one happy face, and making their day… thats doing more than you are required, WAY TO GO NIKE!!! KEEP IT UP!!! GO TEAM USA!!!

Comment by Pasfinest — July 1, 2008 @ 12:33 pm
More like Coack K will bring them Gold! I think we needed a balance of all-stars and some sleepers. Lets not forget what happened in 04 with all that talent. Some of these guys actually have something to prove.
Comment by dj.jbras — July 1, 2008 @ 1:27 pm

THEY NEED TO BRING THOSE RETRO 7′S BCK OUT
Comment by MCLOVIN — July 1, 2008 @ 4:53 pm
This is all good and well. But sadly the US will not win the gold once again. So all this marketing will be for nothing. 1 center? Those Europeans are gonna kill us down low. They could have definitely done a better job picking a more balanced team. What happened to Shane Battier. Defense and hustle win Gold medals. Enjoy it now because in August its over.
Comment by JGRAY — July 1, 2008 @ 5:34 pm
i luv my Olypics VIIs too but u know what would of kill’d em Nicekicks? The Olympic VI…the real ones like white/navy blue…not the google/ebay jordan joints! LOl but u cant be touched anyway!

Comment by Glen Mac — July 2, 2008 @ 12:51 am
can’t really get with the pattern on the back. I thought that was going to be unique to China, but now it seems like all Nike teams at the Olympics will have it, lame…
Comment by b. cheng — July 2, 2008 @ 3:16 am
am i 20 years out of date or are professionals not allowed at the olympics ?
Comment by alan lovedog — July 2, 2008 @ 5:25 am
The Nike advertaisment is very good and the shoes are hot…but, This team wont make it…Even the all wear Nikes, Jordans, Adidas, Whatever…that’s all I’ve Got to say…Argentina will beat their ass…Theres a lot of good player around the world that we dont see because they dont play on the NBA…and it had been proved that the only real dream team was in Barcelona…That’s the only true Dream Team…
Comment by J-M@n — July 2, 2008 @ 9:49 am
I’ve got Faith in the USA.
Comment by P3 — July 2, 2008 @ 11:27 am
alan,
Professionals were never “not allowed” at the Games, but the US Basketball program only sent amateur and college players. This was the way things went until we lost to the Soviets in 1988 so the Dream Team was formed to seek redemption. By 1992 the USSR was only a memory as a nation (fizzled in 1991) and we all know what Team USA did in Barcelona ;-).
The 2008 team has some redemption of their own to do as well. The 2004 squad lost 3 games in Athens - the US had only lost 2 Olympic games in the team’s history before that (1972 controversial finish, 1988).
Comment by Nice Kicks — July 2, 2008 @ 12:27 pm
I cant really tell from any of the pics that are there already but how come there is no pic of #8…who is that?….Is that Michael REDD….somebody shed some light on the infamous #8 please LOL!
Comment by D-Block — July 2, 2008 @ 12:41 pm
Ummmm… is there any way we can get that last picture in wallpaper form for the rest of us???
Comment by PhilWil — July 2, 2008 @ 6:08 pm
wow looks really fresh
Comment by greenmaker24 — July 2, 2008 @ 6:35 pm
NiceKicks, I thought FIBA had banned NBA players from playing because they were professionals, but then dropped that clause before the ‘92 Olympics, thus the Dream Team.
Comment by b. cheng — July 2, 2008 @ 8:51 pm
does any1 know who that is dunking over the 4 kids?….special fx?
