Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” Unboxing

Less than a month removed from the last "Fire Red" sighting, the Air Jordan 5 "Fire Red" is here to carry the torch. Last seen in 2006, the wait for the OG sneaker has been a relatively lengthy one. Well, wait no longer, because we've gotten them in right on time for their Saturday, August 31st release, and they're the subject of our latest Nice Kicks Unboxing installment.

Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” OG & 2013 Comparison

One of the four original colorways of the Air Jordan 5, the "Fire Reds" are back for only the second time in 23 years. The AJ5 was brought to life by Tinker Hatfield and features innovative and creative elements and features. As the first model to feature a clear sole, accented by the bright red shark teeth shapes on the midsole, the "Fire Red" 5 personified its endorser. This colorway perfectly complimented the Chicago Bulls jerseys, and the "23" stamp on the heel personalized it exclusively to MJ. Michael Jordan laced up the "Fire Red" Jordan 5 during the first half of the 1990-91 season, which would propel him to his second NBA MVP and first NBA Championship. The Air Jordan 5 "Fire Red" received its first and only retro release in 2007, and is now back in its same color scheme for 2013. The differences from the 1990 OG and the newest retro are few and far between, with the largest eye-catcher being a slimmer modern "23" stamp, as JB kept it classic. Scroll through to see a detailed comparison between the first OG release and the 2013 Air Jordan 5 "Fire Red".

Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” Detailed Images

Made famous by Mike, this Air Jordan 5 "Fire Red" marks the third release of the famed colorway. Distinguished by #23 stamping on the side wall and set off by the hot, hot hue, this AJ5 iteration remembers when MJ was running, or rather flying, with the Bulls. A black tongue adds character to this OG colorway, worn often on court by his Airness. Smooth white leather contrasts white mesh on the upper, met by the fiery tone on the lining and midsole. A glass outsole caps off this hot colorway in cool fashion, with a Jumpman stamping the forefoot. Look for the Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” to release on August 31st at the Nice Kicks Shop and other Jordan Brand accounts.
