Shop Shout: Compound in Portland, OR

Shop Shout: Compound Portland, ORNo trip would be complete without an afternoon dedicated to walking around looking for sneaker spots. After spending several hours at the Beaverton Campus we headed downtown to Portland’s Old Town District where we came across the area’s premier spot, Compound. Formerly two spaces in one, this location was known as Just Be with an upstairs art gallery Compound. Cutting down on the confusion, the two spaces now carry the same name: Compound.

Located only 10 miles from the corporate headquarters of Nike, Compound offers a great selection of Nike but also top tiered products of many other sneakers brands including Adidas Consortium, Puma, Converse, and Vans Vault. Compound does have a great sneaker wall but equally a great selection of clothing, toys, and art unlike any other sneaker shop. The art gallery upstairs in the space has a wide selection of pieces from local as well as world renowned artists.

Founder Katsu Tankaka started Just Be five years ago as an toy store that quickly earned a reputation for the go to space in the Northwest for collectible and imported toys. The space even caught the attention of now CEO of Nike, Mark Parker, who himself is an avid toy collector.

Compound is a spot that is a must see if your travels ever take you through “The City of Roses.”

  14. I live in Beaverton, and I must say, the Portland Niketown, Exit and Compound are sweet. Portland doesn’t get enough cred from all the sneakerheads and hypebeasts out there. Theres a lot of good spots to check out, not to mention the Nike World Campus and Employee Store located in Beaverton, which is only about 4 miles from my house. I get all my nike gear from the Employee Store, unless they dont carry it, which happens to be A LOT, if not ALL of the nike gear im lookin for, so its only good for a little bit of stuff, but thats what Compound and Exit are for. As for the World Campus, AMAZING. I went there for soccer camps and words really cannot describe how amazing it is, even the pictures that hav been taken dont give it enough cred.

  15. ^Hey clover17, speaking of the world campus, a friend of mine has a parent that works there, and that parent owns a pair of the Orange/Whie AZGs. its hard to believe, but ive seen them. i asked him about it, and it was given to him as a gift cause he worked in basketball but moved to tennis. hes got a lot of orange colorways of shoes that werent released, cause hes a HUGE oregon state fan. hes still get the occassional basketball shoe cause all his buddies are still in there, hes got the CTK and China ZLIVs and the ohio state soldiers. Hes also met Tinker :O , so lucky
