Much like Andre Agassi, Rickie Fowler has brought brash style and loud hues to a country club sport. Known for his bright PUMA gear and cleats, the brand and the athlete commissioned our friend The Shoe Surgeon to make a pair of custom cleats to salute the late, great Arnold Palmer and benefit his Arnie’s Army Foundation.
Worn by Fowler last Wednesday in Bay Hill at the first Arnold Palmer Invitational with matching gear, only two pairs exist — the ones Rickie wore and an autographed pair that was recently auctioned.
“I feel privileged to have known Arnie and be able to call him a friend. I wanted to do something to celebrate what he did on the course and more importantly how he used his platform to benefit others through his Foundation,” said Fowler. “He is the King after all!!”
Details are plentiful on this pair, but perhaps the most special is the laser etched quote inside the box from Rickie that reads, “Legends never die. You will live on forever Arnie. I will never forget the bear hug in front of the clubhouse at Augusta, watching you hit your final tee shot there, and to spending time with you in the locker room at Bay Hill. Thank you for being you and giving me the opportunity to do what I get to do everyday! I love you as did everyone! RIP The King.”
