Reebok Pump Pay Dirt

Reebok Pump Pay DirtWhile Dee and Dominique were representing the Pumps in the NBA, Reebok received future Hall of Fame help from Emmitt Smith and Frank Thomas for football and baseball. The Reebok Pay Dirt came at a time when Reebok was at the top of their game for cross training shoes. The shoes were practically indestructible with a durable outsole and armor-like lace cage on the sides of the shoes. The Pump gave the wearer the custom fit they needed whether they were making hard cuts in the grass or knocking them out in batting practice.

Make no mistake, these were also worn outside of the workouts by many back in the day. The large Reebok logo on the back let everyone know you were wearing the true, authentic Pump sneakers and the splatter painted midsoles was original as well. These are to be part of a rumored Preseason Pack just in time for Fall training.  Think these should return?  Let us know after the jump.   Pics via Complex.

  1. I had that exact colorway. These shoes were MAD comfy.

I am def feeling these coming back. I wouldn’t mind seeing some other colors like for the Dolphins or the NY Giants!

  3. I could live w/o these as a retro but for people who had them the first time around it might be nice to see a re-release. Not sure as to how well they’d sell in todays market.

  4. Man I would kill for these shoes. I am big into the early 90’s turf kicks.

  5. What ever happened to cross trainers? Remember all the great trainers in the 90’s endorsed by football players? Cross trainers are a dying genre.

These look to bulky for today’s consumers and the Reebok logo on the back needs to be smaller. I don’t see many people wearing these ‘retros’.

  6. I’m rockin wit these joints. Didn’t do too many Ree’s back in the day but I’m feelin these. I’m a Jordan/Air Max head myself, but these here. . .I’d DEFINITELY DO. Hope to get my hands on a pair.

  7. ^^ you are the type to walk into a store and just look at the retros, the new jordans, new basketball shoes. cross trainers still have a huge market just look at nike, new balance, adidas, reebok, asics.. the list goes on and on. my point is just because they’re not covered on sneaker culture sites doesn’t mean they don’t exist

  10. I think these are great, prime for a release in the lead up to winter. Reebok is bringing some great kicks to the table in ‘08.

  12. Either way, proof cross trainers are a dying genre. I went to finishline.com and searched for men’s cross trainers. And got a whopping 29 shoes as a result and 14 of them are retro shoes.

    See for yourself: http://www.finishline.com/store/results/index.jsp?pageTitle=Men&Ns=P_SalePrice|1&N=3000583+3000544&categoryId=cat10003

I did the same thing at Eastbay.com and I got a 205 shoes as a result but if you dig deeper you see it’s pretty much the same shoes just in a bunch of different colors. Hell, they had the Stan Smiths and Air Max Ltd.’s in there by mistake.

  18. RBK needs to stop with these retros that only collectors care about and do what Nike is doing and start redropping their basketball kicks from the mid-90’s.

RBK got more than just Iverson’s in their vault, how bout’ retroing the Shaqnosis or Kamikaze’s for starters.

    Comment by madskillz — April 22, 2008 @ 6:19 pm

  21. These are cool. Back in those days sneakers were gawdy back then. I don’t think anybody would wear big ass letters unless it is a retro.

Anyway, I always liked the pumps. I never bought it but i did try it on and the pump system really did work (so does reeboks DMX system)

    Comment by PhilWil — April 22, 2008 @ 7:08 pm

  22. Answer, read my comment at post #12. I think you are mistaken that cross trainers are doing well. And you shouldn’t speak about what I own and what I look at, you have no clue.

  24. Foxmulder,

Shaqnosis, Kamikaze, and the Blasts all need to return imo. In my honest opinion, Reebok basketball shoes started their decline once they started putting everything behind AI and DMX.

  25. I had the black and Orange paydirts back in Junior high as well as the Frank Thomas Assaults in High school, even had the baseball cleats….I’d love to get a pair of either of them again. As for the re-releasing any of the Shaqs, I wonder if there would be a problem with that since Shaq isn’t a Reebok guy anymore?

    Comment by mache custom kicks — April 23, 2008 @ 2:43 am

  26. mache custom kicks,

adidas did it with Kobe’s old shoes and called them the crazy 8’s. All Reebok has to do is change the name of the shoes and get rid of the Shaq logo. Instead of Shaqnosis they can call them “Got-fat-and-out-of-shape-so-I-could-play-for-a-contender-nosis”

    Comment by TASJ7045 — April 23, 2008 @ 4:37 am

  27. FINALLY!

    Comment by jibs — April 23, 2008 @ 1:20 pm
