premiumgoods. x Nike Zoom Kobe 1
Just in time for the 2008 Olympics, PremiumGoods. is releasing the last Nike Zoom Kobe 1, the “Atomic Kobe”, to commemorate Team USA athlete, Kobe Bryant.During the 2006 NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston, Nike invited six boutiques to take place in a design contest for an exclusive ZK-1 colorway. The stores included Alife, Huf, Nort, St. Alfred, Premiumgoods., and Undefeated. Kobe selected premiumgoods.’ design as the overall winner….
The inspiration for the “Atomic Kobe” came from numerous emotions mentioned in Kobe’s diary, the most important of which being energy. PremiumGoods. applied the infinity symbol throughout the shoe to represent the scientific equation of E=mc2, but also a rotated version of the number 8 (Kobe’s jersey number at the time). The atomic symbol on the side heel of each shoe features Kobe’s black mamba logo, representing the nucleus. On August 8, 2008 (08.08.08), 8 pairs will be released at both Brooklyn and Houston locations for $444. |

Wow, just wow. I honestly don’t know how to react. There are some who have “inspirations” and use some color scheme to match something else, but this shoe has so many elements that tie to this theme that you can tell whoever did this put some major though into it. The best part….IT LOOKS GREAT!
Big props to Premium Goods for actually reading about Kobe and designing a shoe keeping in mind the person who it is made for. So often you see these collabos and it’s like the artist doesn’t take into consideration the purpose for the shoes or who is behind it.
Seriously, best collab on a Nike Basketball shoe ever. Mark my words on that one.

The shoes are definitely a great one, and in my honest opinion, I have to agree with your statement that these are the best collabs on a Nike Basketball product to date.
We have been patiently waiting (and annoying the hell out of Clarence and Jen) for these for quite a while. Some of your may remember that Complex Magazine selected these as the best shoes of the past 5 years in the April/May 2007 issue.
I, myself, am yet to see them in person, but from photos they look to be incredible. A few pairs leaked from Beaverton’s offices and hit eBay a short while ago. While the auction is too old to load, the final bidding price was $1028.
Oh how that theme of 8 is so much a part of this shoe…..

The Zoom’s are some of the most comfortable basketball sneakers I’ve ever worn and the design of these are flawless, but for some reason I couldn’t see myself wearing the casually.

^ yes indeed. You won’t believe this, but I went by the shop today in bk and there is already someone who is waiting!
I guess if its summer time and you don’t got a job, waiting in line for sneakers pays pretty well! There was a pair of samples that just sold on eBay today for $1950. I will look for the auction link to prove it….

Comment by Big Rod — August 4, 2008 @ 10:57 am
i just called the bk shop and some dude explained to me that:
8 was taken from kobe’s old number
8 inspired the infinity logo print
8 set the release date
$444 price for each store equal $888 hence 8-8-08
4+4+4+4+4+4=24 kobe’s new number
atomic orbital represented energy hence e=mc^2
fade swoosh represents movement
white base color represents lightness
shoes comes inside a wooden box.
*side note: the other entries were all black or dark color
sick!
brb with more details.
