Nike is celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Cortez by paying tribute to the shoe’s region-specific popularity. California has always been critical to the shoe’s success, especially inner city Los Angeles.
That said, Nike pays homage to one of the shoe’s biggest supporters — the city of Compton. A cultural staple in the city during the 80s and 90s, Compton is honored with its own Nike Cortez much like the surrounding city of Long Beach.
