Nike Air Solo Flight Retro
There are a number of Nike Basketball shoes from the latter part of the last decade as well as the early 2000’s that I would like to see come back, but it is quite interesting that this pair has returned.
The Nike Air Solo Flight popped up about a year after the first Flightposite released right before the turn of the millennium. Riding on the success of the Flightposite, the shoe was made to look similar to the flagship Nike Basketball sneaker, but did not come close in terms of performance. The synthetic upper was made to look like posite material; however, it was not form fitting nor as durable. The sole was a thinner rubber though shaped like the Flightposite’s counterpart and the plastic TPU on the side was well, just a piece of plastic with no functionality. In order to legally carry the “Air” name, the shoe had an Encapsulated Air Unit (EAU) which was far from comparable to the Zoom Air that the Flightposite sported. All in all, it was a decent looking shoe for a sub $100 price, but the similar looks to the Flightposite were almost misleading to someone who didn’t know the difference between the two. The retro version of the Nike Air Solo Flight will be available exclusively at Footlocker and Footaction stores later this year in three colors. No word on the third color yet, but expect silver/black as that was the most popular color back in the day. Photos thanks to Sneaker News. |

Matt,
It doesn’t sound like you were really fond of this shoe hehe
This will definitely be passed on by me. So many good shoes coming out, the last thing I need are some legitimate knockoffs.

sneakFREAK,
I HATED this shoe. This shoe came out just about when I started working at a mall sneaker chain (they treated their workers so poorly they don’t deserve their name being mentioned). What was frustrating was all of the basketball players who thought that these were half priced Flightposites since these came out just about 1 year after the and we had half priced Flightposites at the time to make it even more confusing.
I was studying hard on my PK (product knowledge) at the time since I was new and I just couldn’t believe the difference in the two shoes from flagship shoe to take down version with the lowest grade tech.
All in all, I am sure many will appreciate this shoe, but there are so many shoes from the late 90’s and early 2000’s that I would rather see return even in the more affordable price range.

WHY???—>did Nike even bother bringing these back…
I thought they were an ugly cheap-looking replica of my beloved Flightposites when they were released the 1st time (a poor mans flightposite if you will)…should’ve just left these ugly vinyl kicks in ‘00 along with the Y2K scare…

these are okay but I rather get the other versions don’t know the name but they have laces instead of the covered front

These kicks are actually out already. I saw the black ones at my local Footlocker last week. I actually had a pair of these back in 01′(black nubucks) I only got them cuz i missed out on the real flightposites in 99′. Not sure how ppl can confuse them, the flightposites have a zipper and better materials.

Correct me if I’m wrong but whenever retail companies get exclusives they give feedback to Nike on what they want to ‘retro’. I too used to work for a retail company that treats their employes bad and isn’t worth mentioning and I remember our company actually asking Nike to retro an old shoe for us exclusively. There is certain stipulations Nike puts in their contract such as these shoes can not be Returned to Vendor. If this is true why would Foot Locker ask for these?
I think nicekicks.com should have a section of flagship shoes and their legit knockoffs. A bunch come to mind for me.

^ indeed Footlocker would have had to make of offer for a MOQ (minimum order quantity) and probably have either no right to RTV (return to vendor) or have a very low buy back price.
There are a ton of shoes that come to mind too. Nike has done that for years and JB team shoes for a while had some clear bites. I have nothing against making a lower cost shoe, but when it is so close, you might as well rock Payless and save yourself some dough.

why did they not just re release a Flightposite shoe? it makes no sense to me. those would sell like hot cakes.

I actually bought the white ones today, not because i like them, but because they were only 45 dollars. Footlocker employee’s 50 percent off was today, and i happened to known the manager. =)
