If Virgil Abloh can be accredited for restoring interest in the Air Max 90 through its implementation in “The Ten,” the same would need to be said for John Mayer — maybe even more so. In 2017, Mayer released two quasi collaborative iterations of Nike’s ubiquitous 90’s shoe. The “Spirit Level” was the first, followed by the whimsical “Pickle Rick,” which pulled from the hilarious web series Rick and Morty.
Excitement surrounding the model has undeniably been restored, after general fatigue had set in on the beloved style. Nike’s recent release of the shoe falls under the “Summer Sea” pack, an ode to warmer weather and activities that often come with increased climate.
The Nike Air Max 90 “Summer Sea” quickly sold out on Nike.com and Shoe Palace. More pairs are expected on Nike on April 7.
