New Balance 1400 “Chicken Run”

New Balance 1400 Chicken Run FeatureAs William J. Riley sat in the yard, little did he know what his idea of helping humans walk like chickens would eventually become. Riley originally founded New Balance to produce arch supports so that we humans could have a “the perfect balance” like that of the chicken.

This month New Balance is commemorating Riley’s original inspiration with the Chicken Run New Balance 1400 Collection. This series of three sneakers pay tribute to this original idea of his with a fading progression of a chicken transforming into a human from the toe cap to the side panel of the shoe.

Three different colorways were made for this set. All of which clearly represent New Balance’s commitment to quality as well as its employees. Assembled by the Super Team 33 crew, these sneakers are produced domestically in New England. The Chicken Run New Balance 1400’s are available this month at select New Balance retailers for $150. Plenty of detailed shots are posted after the jump.

  3. Maybe it’s just my area but does anyone rock NBs anymore? Don’t get me wrong…they’re classic kicks and I’d still kick it in a pair of the original navy or grey with some sweats …but I haven’t seen anyone wearing a pair in a long time.

  5. I think the reason one doesn’t see many people wearing New Balance in their area hinges a lot on what shops are in their area. I can speak best for Austin, TX since this is where I am, and our local spot, Motive807, does a good job putting NB on the street.

The ones who sell New Balance the best are the shops that know the product well and can convey the necessary info to the customer. Its pretty common knowledge that Nike has the branding power that a swoosh on pretty much anything will sell, but for an Adidas, New Balance, Puma, or Reebok, it takes some product knowledge (and passion) to relay how good a product is to the consumer.

  6. By the way, the 1400 is one of the most comfortable New Balance kicks I own. Next time anyone is at a shop that sells them, take the extra minute or two to try a pair on.

  7. MY BOY MATT SAID IT BEST… YOU GOTTA BE EDUCATED AND KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT OTHER BRANDS TO STEP OUT OF THE EVIL SWOOSH. DON’T BE BLINDED, WHEN YOU BUY A PAIR OF NIKES YOUR PAYING FOR MARKETING SCHEMES. NEW BALANCE MAKE QUALITY KICKS AND IT TAKES A REAL SNEAKER FAN TO KNOW THAT.

  10. The first ones are pretty fresh imo and the third pair isn’t bad either. It’s sad that people get into sneakers and only buy what “everyone” else is wearing. What happened to being yourself and being original and buying what’s hot to you?

^^^ While I agree that New Balance has always made a quality shoe…let’s not get it twisted! Nike (THE SWOOSH) has been ahead of the pack for years in terms of shoe technology and constuction…i.e. IT AIN’T JUST THE MARKETING OR HYPE.
A few years ago I broke my foot and as a result was wearing Air Max religiously (during the healing phase). EVERY foot specialist and podiatrist I saw commented on how my Air Max was hands down the most well constructed and technically sound running shoe they’d seen so far.
Although most people now are into Nike because they make the most popular sneakers, I am a REAL SNEAKER FAN who appreciates both the technology as well as the style/culture of the Nike brand.

  12. Easy cop for me. All three will be getting my hard earned dough. You can keep sleeping on NB if you want, but these cat’s have been slingin’ serious heat left and right. They have been getting the majority of my money as of late. Great designs, comfortable kicks, and made in the U.S.A.? No-brainer for me. Keep passin’ them by. More for me! :) Now if I could just get my hands on more of those overseas releases w/o paying through the nose because of those pesky exchange rates…*lol*

  13. Man, all 3 are super fresh, but for some reason I’m really feeling the charcoal/yellow ones.

btw, i think it’s cool that “matt” gives us extra info about various kicks that are NOT swoosh-related. I will definitely take the advice into consideration. Thanks!

  15. Whats up NB,

I am a promoter in Boston Mass,
Here is a note about what I do for the streets of Boston.

Our goal is to continue to demonstrate to the general public that the Culture of Hip Hop can be a positive avenue for young people to express their artistic talent by educating them on the different elements of Hip Hop.

We work to provide entrepreneurial opportunities for young people and young adults in the Hip Hop Culture.

Over the last eight years we have worked with several non-profit organizations to provide a venue space for breakdancing events. We bring together dancers from all over the country and internationally to compete over the course of two days for cash and prizes.

We do this because we love the sense of community and the family created within this culture. Everyone belongs, everyone is free to create, everyone learns form one and another and even though the dance battles are aggressive and fierce at the end we are all family.

    Our Mailing Address is:
    NEW B WEAR N.B.W., inc
    44 Pilsudski Way #492
    South Boston, MA 02120

So I am hopping that i can talk with somebody about having NB get into real street support and give back to the communities of Mass, Seening how NB the big office is in Boston I just need and hour of your time!
