Nas Speaks Further about Fila
Complex just posted an interview with Nas where he speaks about his album N—–, going independent, and his new deal with Fila. Below is a brief excerpt asking him about his new endorsement deal:
Complex: Last week it was reported you inked a deal with Fila, and you also signed with 310 Footwear like a year ago—two relatively small brands when compared to Nike and Adidas. Why do you think these types of companies are targeting you? Nas: I don’t think they are targeting me; it’s just certain places I land at certain times. I don’t do like, trillion-dollar brands. Cause there’s too much control on their part. Fila has just been a brand amongst the dudes with paper, so I mean, in ’86, ’87, it’s been that brand. It was the Gucci; it was that top of the line. It was the uniform for major players back in ’87, ‘88, ’89. It has been going for a long time so I felt like if I got with them, and we brought that back out, that would be a dream come true to me to be apart of that. Get the full interview at Complex. |

Nas is right about the larger companies having too much control, i highly doubt that nike would let nas speak about what he wants and if so they would be far from accepting Nas’ ideas…only because nike would feel that their ideas work the best and their collabs with “artists” such as futura or designers like stussy are a better fit. When you look at Nas’ fan base he’s got a love/hate relationship because he doesnt make super commercial records and if he does its still true to his roots. Alotta people who dont know the essence of hip hop and like soulja boy dont quite understand this but Nas’ reasons are deep (ill will).

man that was a good pic of Nas to find. As soon as I heard that he signed a deal with Fila this photo was the first that came to my mind.
Nas is a real dude, period. I think that we are going to see some good stuff out of this deal. Already the Premium Goods x Fila has them going in the right direction but I think that Nas can give them some good input of what was the good ish they did as a company.

Nas if right …reminiscing about my first pair of Filas back in the 80’s and how they got me crazy attention when I rocked them to school
I’d wear that Fila suit with the kicks right now (if I could find them for a decent price)…
I just noticed that Nas is wearing his Fila suit with Nikes in that pic…am I the only one that feels like it’s WACK to wear different shoe companies at once???
(i.e. a Jordan tee w. adidas)

I don’t like to mix either, but alot of times I do by accident. That’s just cuz I like to wear addidas shorts when Im relaxin and jordan slides.
Can’t beleive Nas thinks Kanye saved hip-hop though. I got alot of respect for Nas, I think he is actually the 2nd greatest rapper of all time, but Kanye is not that great. I’m also surprised Nas has any respect for Lil Wayne at all.
(I do not think the best is Jay-Z, 2pac, or Biggie and especially not Wayne- that spot belongs to Canibus, yessir, Can-I-Bus)

^^^ I don’t think Nas actually believes Ye saved hip hop…but he needed to say something in order to explain away his previous “hip hop is dead” stance—>he probably figured bigging up Ye was a safe out

Thats a good idea, makes alot of sense. Wish he’d stay with the hip hop is dead stance though, at least referring to the radio. There are very few rappers that are still active that I think are good, and none of them are on the radio. At least where I’m from, and thats in south florida, I’m sure up north there is more talent on the radio.

IM UP NORTH AND ITS JUST ABOUT THE SAME. NO TALENT ON THE RADIO, SUPRISED YOU SAID CANIBUS AS THE BEST BUT I RESPECT IT (EVEN THO HE WAS SLAIN BY LL COOL J LOL) I RESPECT B-CUZ YOUR NOT SAYING THE TYPICAL ANSWERS BIG/PAC. BUT ANYWAY THE WAY NAS PORTRAYS HIMSELF IT SEEMS LIKE A GOOD FIT FOR FILA. NOT MAINSTREAM JUST OWN THERE OWN THING. IM OPEN TO BRANDS IF I THINK ITS HOT ILL WEAR IT. BUT HIP HOP ISNT DEAD ITS ON LIFE SUPPORT…..FOR THE RECORD JAY IS THE BEST ALIVE PLEASE STOP COMPARING HIM TO BIG/PAC GIVE HIM HIS RESPECT…”JAY GOT FLOW BUT HE’S NO BIG OR PAC BUT HE’S CLOSE…HOW IM SUPPOSE TO WIN WHEN THEY GOT ME FIGHTING GHOST???”

Always liked Nas i think he could do a lot for fila as far as boosting the brand def after those xeroxed pradas joints but i also understand were he was coming from with the Hip Hop is Dead statement meaning the Hip HOP Game itself has changed a lot since Nas first album and the only thing that’s running the radio and the charts is the 123 ABC simple no real thought process or ringtone rap and i’m not saying that there is no spot for it but it seems it’s all that being promoted these days when there is other forms of hip hop out that doesn’t get the shine the more simple ringtone rap promotion is getting Hip Hop is diverse give the other forms of hip hop the promotion and radio needs more selection on these playlist besides hearing the same song 3456 times withing a hour or pretty much the same beat looped again on other song.

Now this is a post! Big up to Nas. PERIOD. As for Ye brigning hip-hop back for sure! Ye is one of the few people out who dont have rules or blinders on to creating music yet still distinctively making hip-hop not just making house or r&b records calling it hip-hop. You HAVE TO RESPECT WAYNE if you respect Hip-Hop. The kid is putting in work & blazing every sub genre of hip-hop with M.C.’s of all walks (The Cool Kids, Wyclef, Jay-Z, etc.) You dont have to like him, but u gotta respect his work ethic. nikeindabutt … now in my younger days I really did notice/care about brand mismatching but now that I’m older (aka more in tune with history) I don’t really watch that so tuff…do you & do it well! flight562… Fila just did a x with someone in the Gucci colors pretty sure I saw that here on Nicekicks…Hip-Hop died when the older cats stopped takign the new cats under their wing & when the yong cats no longer gave a $#!% what the new cats have done…bridge the gap & fix the culture…Hip-hop is doing as good as those that are hip-hop are doing…check Dr. Carter for the latest remedy!
Big Dix
