Nas signs with Fila

Nas signs to FilaNormally a week or so after the NBA Draft the news boards are filled with signings of freshly drafted young talent to shoe deals sometimes even before they agree to terms with their team. Interestingly Nas has just signed with Fila for a 1 year deal. This in no way is the first of its kind of hip hop artists being signed to footwear and apparel companies.

This is the second footwear company that he has signed with having been with 310 Motoring, a subsidiary of Sketchers, a few years ago. In an interview with Billboard, Nas stated that “My best friend Will and I loved Fila. It represented prestige and everything that was cool to us. When Will passed, we buried him in a black Fila sweat suit, so doing a deal with them has a lot of significance for me.”

All we can do is hope for the best with Nas and pray that Fila won’t try lacing him up in some knockoff Pradas that Hurricane Chris promoted. On another note, tune into the O’Reilly factor next week - I am sure Bill will spend 10-15 minutes telling us why Fila now should be boycotted. News thanks to OnSmash.

  9. I thought their best years were behind them when they had Grant Hill. Jerry Stackhouse, Tyrone Corbin under contract but if everyone else can comeback why not, but like what was already been said PLEASE PLEASE! Don’t be putting out sneaks like them XEROXED PRADAS KOCKOFFS I know they can do better. As for O’really oops i mean O’REILLY let Fila spend they money on whoever they want like that money HE SPENT on that Andera Mackris making the SEXUAL HARRASMENT LAWSUIT GO AWAY!

  13. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Nasty Nas, why did you go the Fila route? Ok, ok, I get why, but why? With all the sneaker brands out there these days, why Fila? What about Creative Rec or greedy Genius? What’s wrong with Puma, adidas or Nike?

    What’s wrong with Pony?

I don’t know what it is about Fila I don’t like, but I don’t like them.

Nevertheless, I am interested in seeing what Fila has planned with Nas. Maybe it will be something I would buy (even though I really need to stick to my budget).

Those Fila Track suits was the jam though!!!

  16. True… from the ****ery that is Hurricane Chris to whatever else the recently developed, most of their newer releases have been lame.

but im getting into the old school stuff like crazy, so im looking forward to the direction nas is gonna take this brand.

  19. You cant hate on Nas, it doesnt matter if consumers dont like fila, Nas isnt as commercial as many want him to be. A couple years back he turned down a contract with a well known beer company… Nas is real, being commercial is not his thing. You gotta respect that and for those whod wish he signed with nike, r u seriously out of your mind?, Nas stays true to his roots, thats what real hip hop is about. And his reason is significant, Hes one of the Few rappers who doesnt jump on something just because its hot at the moment, he smashes it everytime with his truth.

  20. Isn’t this kinda old news?

I saw this on drop-bomb.com like two weeks ago.

    Comment by DREWDOWN — July 6, 2008 @ 5:15 pm

  21. Back in the Day and Today. Those original tennis are the most comfortable shoes out there. Hope NAS expands on them like Wu-Tang did. Bring back those Fly FILA suits, NAS. Show these retro Jordan sneaker heads what it was like when crack money brought everyone in the ghetto that playboy style.

  23. would people really buy a certain brand of shoes because a singer is paid to promote them?
is he popular in america? - i don’t think he’s had any hits here in the UK.

    Comment by alan lovedog — July 7, 2008 @ 5:46 am

  24. Posers would buy shoes because of a singer. Though FILA has remained popular in the UK, here in the states it has only stayed strong in certain areas. The hope is that by NAS endorsing we get some of those classic styles available back in the states.

  25. sounds cool

    Comment by greenmaker24 — July 7, 2008 @ 4:52 pm

  26. I gree with what some people said here. Bring back the old school Fila and maybe this will work. Bring back those sweat suits and now we are talking.

As for the Nas being real comment… it doesn’t have to be Nike, Reebok, or adidas… it could be greedy Genius , Creative Recreation or a number of other boutique sneaker brands that are WAY COOL, have a huge fanbase, and on the come-up.

I just wonder how this will work other than going old school on us.

    Comment by PhilWil — July 8, 2008 @ 2:17 am

  27. Check out FILA.com Nas is on with FILA’s new gear and kicks.
