Air Jordan Spizike Black/Gold Update
Opium first broke the silence about the Cool Grey Spizike several months ago that followed with a European exclusive release of the shoe. Unfortunately for those who were looking forward to the Black/Gold Jordan Spizikes we posted a couple weeks ago, it looks like you will need to take a trans-Atlantic flight or find a European connect.
Opium Paris just posted a photo of the Black/Gold Spizikes and, written in French, that the shoe will release as a European Exclusive in July. No date has been published, but it would be somewhat convenient for some of us if it happened during Bread and Butter. We will keep you posted with any additional information we receive. |

first of all, jb is buggin, the shoe is representing ny, brooklyn, and a sport that is rooted in american culture. france???? wtf?! this and all jordans for that matter, should be released in new york first, the home of the greatest basketball player that ever lived and as far as i am concerned the center of the universe!!!!!!!
honestly, i am also mad because i probably wont get my hands on a pair, i cant reach that far. and to pay the aftermarket, i mean, i told myself i was done with paying above retail for jordans anymore. this sucks!
Comment by princeofthecity — June 13, 2008 @ 10:38 pm

if jordans are going to release in the US first shouldn’t it be in chicago? spizike or not
those black/golds are sexy though
Comment by XIII — June 13, 2008 @ 11:03 pm
As long as the Cool grey Spiz’ike’s get released in the US I’ll be happy because I’m not to excited about these black/gold ones and will definitely pass.

princeofthecity most guys in brooklyn dont wear Jordan’s anymore. they think its ”played out” so jays dont rep brooklyn,
very few of my friends wear them anymore. im one of the few that do inm my circles. they aren’t the worst, but its too little too late with this model. the only colorway they might turn my head ion their direction would be a black cement version, thats it. its like mike is overselling them now. this never used to happen

princeofthecity, I hate to sh*t in your cereal, this early in the a.m., but Micheal Jordan doesn’t even call Brooklyn, let alone New York, New York, “home.” So why do New Yorkers do so?
He didn’t even live in NY “long enough” to say it’s “home.” His parents packed up before he could even walk and moved to where? Yep, you guessed it, North Carolina… where he continues to call “home.”
Comment by Darneezy — June 14, 2008 @ 6:19 am
they look cool
Comment by greenmaker24 — June 14, 2008 @ 8:40 am
as long as the cool greys come to the states, i’m fine with this being a europe only release. i’m from NY too and I can honestly say new yorkers need to chill with all the noise about MJ bein a native of our city. the guy made many of his career highlights while punishing the knicks in the playoffs. if u like the kicks thats fine, but don’t act like MJ and NY got some sort of beautiful bond or something
Comment by mcmcnyc — June 14, 2008 @ 10:17 am
they igght.. def not worth leavin the states to get. the cool grays are hotter than these joints.
Comment by 23 — June 14, 2008 @ 11:04 am
nice to see JB finally giving us european collectors some heat! if these retail at a decent price, ill cop 2, one to rock, one deadstock….
Comment by Ballabenny — June 14, 2008 @ 12:26 pm
4 the record mr SMITH if the shoe was on the other foot it still would of been a no call picture them calling that on Mj against Russle lets be serious.U end the game on a shot not a stupid call.Mj made the shot so just give him his props.U sound like a Knick fan after charles smith didnt get fouled in the playoffs.
Comment by Baker — June 14, 2008 @ 3:57 pm
maybe it was a reach…..
i would like to see these release in state side first, thats all. i knew i would get some responses on that one.

^^^ While both are good players the U.S. has MORE THAN ENOUGH great players bred on American soil and the NBA would do just fine (if not better) w/o European talent!
Europe didn’t do anything for the NBA..the NBA did something for Europe by giving their talent a chance when we didn’t NEED them…
Comment by nikeindabutt — June 15, 2008 @ 8:35 am
P.S. The spiz’ikes are a “whatever” release…the only association with NY I can see if the fact that they look like some bootlegs you would buy in Chinatown for $50…
Comment by nikeindabutt — June 15, 2008 @ 8:38 am
^^^ While both are good players the U.S. has MORE THAN ENOUGH great players bred on American soil and the NBA would do just fine (if not better) w/o European talent!
^^^ so you honestly believe the spurs would of won the championship without TP last season? I highly doubt it.
Either way, i think JB has realised us europeans get screwed when it comes to releases, as we cannot get US releases at even close to retail, almost double infact.
Comment by Ballabenny — June 15, 2008 @ 9:59 am
These aren’t that bad. I’ll probably just pop into town when they are out and get them.
Comment by Moose — June 15, 2008 @ 2:42 pm
Michael aint win a ship in Spiz’ikes, Dub- Zeros, or fusions so to hell with all of em. Retros are the only thing worth buying.
Comment by Lex G THA CHAMP OF CHAMPS — June 16, 2008 @ 1:29 am
for anyone who doesnt see the connection, there is an association between these kicks and NY, they’re Spizikes, Spike Lee, the director, did a bunch of movies set in Brooklyn, NY, maybe you’ve seen them, Crooklyn, Clockers, Do The Right Thing.
but ^ you are correct in pointing out that mj did not win a champ in any of these shoes.
Comment by princeofthecity — June 16, 2008 @ 8:43 am
I don’t know what JB is thinking…two of the hottest Spiz’ikes in my opinion (Cool Grey and these) are European exclusives. Thanks JB! Gentry better re-think his strategy. For the last three years I have sat here and watched JB retro classic kicks in mass ad nausium and now they are starting the keep fresh new concepts out of the states…I am almost finished with Jordans. I thought retro’s were going to go back to being limited in 2008, but I still see every drop in every town’s local footlocker…step your game up JB. Stop selling out for the green because you are killing your brand in the process and losing true fans, heads who have been in the game for a while…
Comment by BigC — June 16, 2008 @ 9:22 am
wtf is that it look like sh** and rubber mixed
Comment by jose — June 16, 2008 @ 9:33 am
I think they would look better if there wasnt that wack pattern on the gold on tha toe
Comment by soulie17 — June 16, 2008 @ 12:08 pm
LOL @ BallaBenny naming Manu Ginobli and Tony Parker, as if they’ve left this HUGE historical mark on the NBA game. Get real.
And let’s keep it 100… The Spurs won a Championship with AVERY JOHNSON at the point position. If they could do that, of course they could’ve won a championship without Tony Parker.
Do you even know your basketball?
Comment by Darneezy — June 16, 2008 @ 1:01 pm

Manu Ginobili is from South America not Europe you dumb-ass. And to be specific, he’s from Argentina.
Comment by IkonRadio.com — June 16, 2008 @ 5:42 pm
princeofthecity,
MJ may have “popped out” in Brooklyn, but the dude was raised, went to school, and resides in North Carolina.
The Spizike is a shoe that does have a little dash of Brooklyn because it is an amalgamation of all the Jordans that Spike Lee worked with Nike/JB to promote, but other than that, I would say the shoe is more Oregon (where each individual component was designed) more than anything.
I am happy to see regional releases again. As a head the love comes from the thrill of the chase. I got bored (and quit) AF1s once the chase ended and virtually every store, in every mall, in every city, and in every country got the same ish.
JD Sports, Euro/Canadian, and Asian exclusives were the best thing that happened to the Air Force Ones imo. The days when people would ask you “where’d you get those?!” rather than “oh, you must have paid $225 for them”.
Comment by Nice Kicks — June 16, 2008 @ 11:11 pm
nice but i like the shoes that they have already released betta
Comment by Sneaker King — June 17, 2008 @ 5:42 am
yes, the chase can be exciting, but i cannot envision getting these for retail, being that they are a eu release and to make matters worse, even if you did get them for retail, the dollar vs. the euro you would end up paying 20% more anyways, right? its weird cause i have attempted to purchase sneakers through the web in the past off of euro web stores and couldn’t do it. if i had the opportunity to get my hands on a pair i would def jump though.
Comment by princeofthecity — June 17, 2008 @ 8:26 am
How much is it??
Comment by msg — June 17, 2008 @ 11:30 pm
They are really killing the Spizikes… It should have been limited colorways… or at least more selective… plz plz plz don’t destroy the sneaker by coming out in green, brown or orange (Typical retro colors)
Comment by jimmysupahfly — June 18, 2008 @ 2:04 pm
Lazering is boring. JB needs to get their mind right. For real, since they’ve stopped making new, numbered shoes, they’ve just gotten ridiculous.
These shoes would be much cooler if they had used gold Elephant print, as apposed to the gold lazering.
Also, I think someone needs to start a petition to end this. No more Spiz’ikes. They’re about as played out as the Air Yeezy’s are going to be if they get any sort of general release.

Comment by shoehead — June 21, 2008 @ 8:16 am
The bootleg version of these already came out like 7 months ago. Oh, and I think MJ and Gentry are just teasing you guys. It’s probably bait. I mean, if he released them here, you guys would say, “oh the spizikes are done, they overdid it”, but when they’re released over there, they’re hyped to death. Good luck getting your hands on these, unless Jordan tries to release ‘em here. Also, I don’t like the direction this is going. Jordans were hottest when you could wear the shoes MJ wore, at least without getting a package. Now it’s all fusions and mash-ups and team Jordans. Sorry for the long comment.
