Jacob The Jeweler Arrested for Money Laundering

Revered in hip hop circles as the go-to man for bling, Jacob ‘The Jeweler’ Arabo was arrested Thursday morning (June 15), on federal charges stemming from an indictment of 16 people in Detroit. On May 10, the U.S. Attorney of the Eastern District of Michigan indicted 16 people, who allegedly violated federal drug laws and laundered over $270,000,000 in U.S. currency. Arabo is named in the Detroit indictment. The indictment also seeks the forfeiture of more than 30 pieces of jewelry, in addition to a number of residences and cars. Arabo is also charged with giving and lending the accused narcotic offenders jewelry. Although, Daniel Gatlin, Arabo’s lawyer, said that his client had been trying to get back the jewelry since November. With his finely crafted diamond watches and jewelry, Arabo established a high profile clientele, with hip hop heavyweights like Diddy, Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Lil’ Kim and Kanye West. I realize that we don’t talk about jewelry, but I thought that I would share this story since he is such a major icon in the hip hop community. Many of the artists he has done major work for are die hard sneaker fans too.

I wasn’t feeling his new kicks and most of the jewelry that I see the celebs sporting is way too ghetto fab for my taste. The man is a business man. His clients pay for the jewelry that they buy. I didn’t realize one had to conduct a background check of all their clients. He’s not doing anything that car dealers haven’t been doing for years.
