Six figures for some shoes? The actual Air Jordan 12s that Michael Jordan wore in his famous 1997 NBA Finals “Flu Game” sold this morning for $104,765, setting a new record for game-worn shoes in any sport by a landslide. Former Utah Jazz ball boy Preston Truman was working the team’s Game 5 Finals matchup with the Chicago Bulls when he mustered up enough courage to ask MJ if he could have his shoes before the game. Following a 38-point performance, a sick Jordan went out of his way to get the Bulls’ equipment manager to get his shoes, and socks, into the hands of the lucky ballboy- signed. After 16 years of being stored away in a safety box, Truman consigned the memorabilia with Grey Flannel Auctions, who had sold a pair of game-used Air Jordans from Mike’s rookie year for $21,780. After starting the bidding at $5,000, 15 bids later the actual “Flu Game” 12s sold for over six-figures. If this sale isn’t Truman’s last, he also has a pair of the GOAT’s sneakers from the 1998 Finals.
