1ST………….i cant lie his swagg is throwed.
but on the comments about jay-z i only think jay-z is the best MC on the east coast. becuase Jay-z doesn’t make down south rap.
Comment by KW — September 30, 2008 @ 5:14 pm
True…but to a certain degree. Jay Z doesn’t make down south rap because he’s not from the south. But just because he doesn’t make down south music doesn’t mean his music can’t have that feel to it. For example, Big Pimpin’, that song was more popular down south then it was in N.Y. CK is right, on a lot of different subjects he touched on. Clark is a beast when it comes to exclusives. The Jackie Robinson’s are sick!!!!

Yes I agree with Kent, On Everything he talks about, he is true not fake and Yes Jay-Z is one of the best. This was well woth my time watching this. Dnt forget that serious heat he showed. Damn he needs to battle Joey Crack in a Sneaker battle with greg street Mayor and All Day.

The barber shop he’s in is the chop shop that’s in lower east side of Manhattan i live couple blocks from there and across the street i was robbed back in 95 at gunpoint for my 10’s new york knicks

I 90% OF WHAT HE SAY, BUT JAY Z AIN’T THE ILLEST MC, THERE’S ALOT OF OTHERS THAT SPIT HARDER THAN JAY, LIKE BIG LOU FOR INSTANT. THE DUDE SPIT SO MUCH VOCABULARIES YOU NEED A DICTIONARY TO FOLLOW ALONG, NAS, AZ, KANYE AND LUPE FIASCO ARE BEAST TOO, I THINK THE REASON WHY PEOPLE SAY JAY Z IS THE BEST MC CUZZ HE’S SO SUCCESSFUL, THAT NOBODY CAN’T HATE ON HIM. I LOVE JAY Z, BUT I DON’T BELIEVE HE’S THE ILLEST, HE’S ONE OF THE TOP 10, BUT HE AINT THE BEST. BUT FOR PRINCE BRENDAN ^^^^ YOU CAN’T EXPECT A EAST NEW YORK RAPPER TO MAKE SOUTHERN ISH. COME ONE NOW THAT’S LIKE SAYIN SOULJA BOY SHOULD MAKE REAL SONGS LOL PLEASE.. IF BIGGIE AND PAC WAS STILL ALIVE 75% OF THESE RAPPERS WILL BE WORKING AT BURGER KING

Clark knows hip hop he’s been around for a long time. Im gonna have to agree with him on JAY. There aint no rapper that can go song for song with jay or album for album. He is the richest rapper for a reason. His albums touch on alot of real life situations, there aint one rapper out right now who puts together better albums than jay. Aint nobody i know seeing clark when it comes to them AF1’s he got some heat. Plus he dont mess with mids so you know he gets extra swag points for that mids are terrible. Lol at jay needs to make some south music for what for whom? Jay just need to keep doing what he do and thats rip tracks apart lyrically.

100% CORRECT
Comment by RULER OF NY — September 30, 2008 @ 8:45 pm
I felt CK 100% until he mention Pac… Man I felt a Brooklyn bais, like he’s the best DJ and Jay is the best rapper… I hate when these dudes try to break down the rap game like Jay is the best cause of his lyrics and Pac’s not cause he only makes good songs that you can feel… Like dude listen to that dumbness you just said… Aint making good songs is the whole objective, getting paid for it and having a connection with your fans the reason you pick up a mic!!! PAC will always be the best of this generation. Not one MC since him meant more to the game then he did. Remember he left us at 25 Jay about to turn 39. So we can only sit in imagine how many more hits he would of had. Finally as fans you should want MC’s to keep it real so why would you want Jay make down south music that’s not his lane… we have T.I. the king for that!!!
Comment by Jersey Boy — September 30, 2008 @ 9:50 pm
lol at the comments on how the only reason we consider jay the best is because of his success b4 the success ppl was feelin him the dude cud rhyme he got vocab and tlks real life and he had swag b4 ppl were using the word just because some one has an ill vocab doesn’t make them a great mc its how u use it the word play its used in how the lyrics are put together that’s why big and jay are the best and now that BIG is gone theres only one king and thats jay-z no if and or buts if he made down south music he wouldnt be brooklyn anymore he would b a wanna be he not gonna ride the south because their type of music is whats selling he doin wat he been doin frm day one and he still being felt by dudes all over the world dass how u kno hes the king of hip hop everyone frm everyhood relates and all of his content makes sense—- bksnkrhead out
Comment by bklynsSNKRhead — September 30, 2008 @ 10:30 pm
o and its not a brooklyn thing pac just aint as good lyrically wen compared to jay, common, BIG, NaS or BIG L but he makes some good ass music with some of the best flows a hip hop head cud hear and u cant say that if he was alive wat would happen cus if him and BIG really had a rap battle he wud have been dessert not even lunch ta BIG the battle wud have JA RUlED him……. well not really but big would have beaten him

Clark Kent is the freshest dude on the planet AND he’s dead right about Jay as I listen to ‘Jockin Jay-Z’..

DJ Clark Kent was right as far as how money is ruining hip-hop culture, but he is just totally off on some other subjects. I understand how he says hip-hop and rap aren’t the same thing, hip-hop is a culture, rap is the music of that culture. I also understand why he thinks Jay-Z is the greatest, him being from Brooklyn and all…but to say 2pac isn’t even in the top ten?!!! Nee-gro please, 2pac is at the top of that list. Since when is Ice Cube some kind of hot lyricist? DJ Clark Kent needs to go back and listen to some of those albums. 2pac was a remarkable lyricist who had something in his lyrics that a lot of people lack…substance. Go album for album and see who comes out on top. Makaveli alone is crushing Jay-Z’s whole catalog, and for the record i’m totally unbiased as I don’t live on the East coast, West coast, or down South. I’m from Ohio and I have every Jay-Z album, every Nas album, and all of 2pac’s albums(no Makaveli bootlegs). Some of the people he named where great, I’m also a fan of Cube, Common, and Lupe. But 2pac was in a class all his own. The greatest ever… if you don’t believe that, find a wack 2pac verse, and I’ll show you a Jay-Z d**k rider.

Comment by greenmaker24 — October 1, 2008 @ 7:10 am
And on some real ish, who’s ever made a track as real and heartfelt as “Dear Mama”? Go back twenty years, you won’t find one. You’ll find some real tracks, but nothing that hits as hard as that.

Comment by mario ricaurte — October 1, 2008 @ 12:41 pm
Clark Kent is definitely the man when it comes to kicks. That Brooklyn Finest track was definitely one of the best songs ever so he gets props for that too. Jay is definitely one of the best but in my opinion Big L helped mold his earlier style. Later on and now he has his own style and is ill but to say Tupac is not in the top 10 is crazy. I think a lot of dudes hate on Pac because he didn’t rep New York even though he was from there. 100 years from now some of Pac’s songs will still have meaning a purpose I honestly don’t know if I can say the same about Jay.
Comment by D — October 1, 2008 @ 1:20 pm
Clark Kent is full of it. Man favors Ny and the east coast waaay to hard. yeah its legit rep your city. rep your coast. but come on.. someone saying that TUPAC is not a lyricist is someone whos not lookin for the right words. Tupac describes it you feel. kent didnt go out of his way to mention a single west coast name. wheres nikatina??? yeah whatever i feel some of the things the man had to say… but not all of it. prolly not half of it. jackie robinson didnt create barry bonds, anabolic steroids did. im sure kents a lot of talk NOW that jay is so popular and that he is so rich. him sayin he introduced biggy n jay.. as if “he started it all” yeah yeah yeah…. come on i heard better stories from the cracked out lady screamin at the bus stop.

DJ Clark Kent dropping knowledge. Deff
can any one school me on that Biggie song at the beginning of the vid please?
Comment by fliprg91 — October 1, 2008 @ 6:41 pm
I totally agree on what Clark is saying about the money involved in hip-hop, but I have to disagree on him saying Tupac was not a lyricist. I mean, I’m not saying anyone of any age can’t appreciate what he has done, but especially if you were old enough to listen to Tupac during the time he was still alive you already know he actually had pure lyrical talent.
Comment by orthotic — October 1, 2008 @ 8:12 pm
Thank you to everyone who’s taken the time to watch the video. I think the best part of the interview is the fact that Clark has an opinion and isn’t afraid to share it. The fact is that people will argue Biggie vs. Tupac vs. Jay vs. whoever to the grave… no one has ever made a proper definitive argument that ended the discussion and no one ever will. This was Clark’s opinion, and it caused discussion. That’s a beautiful thing. His opinion on the greatest rapper shouldn’t overshadow his stories on discovering Jay, introducing him to Biggie, and his very insightful comments on the state of hip hop today. We’ve always wanted NHTVSN to be an avenue of learning and growth, and we hope that this segment did that for some. Again, thanks for watching (and thanks to nicekicks.com for the post).
To fliprg91 - that song in the beginning is “Players Anthem” by Junior MAFIA featuring Biggie. That song was produced by DJ Clark Kent.
Comment by NHTVSN — October 2, 2008 @ 4:06 pm
I forgot to add - if you thought what Clark said in this interview was controversial, we’ll be posting part 2 of it in a few weeks and he’s got some very important things to share… more important, some would say, than who’s the greatest rapper/lyricist/whatever. Stay tuned.
Comment by NHTVSN — October 2, 2008 @ 4:07 pm
hes correct! he has a lot of knowledge but there are still come cats out there that are lyrically nice. everyone is entitled to their own opinion and thats something i respect. his sneaks were sick!
Comment by Levi Bond Jr. — October 2, 2008 @ 6:11 pm
Dj Clark kent kicks are fresh to death. I’m form the south and i like his swagg. he is right jay-z is one of the best but not the best i think lil wayne. But he has to show a little more respect to 2pac he is one of the best of all time. His lyrics are true and his words are powerful. He’s not telling no lies at all when he speaks.
Comment by Mycah Patton — November 28, 2008 @ 11:56 pm
Are You Kidding me! Lil Wayne is not the best, he’s not even in the same sentence with 2pac, big, jay, and nas. He’s right about Jay-Z but 2pac is one of the best of all time and to #28 he did start it all jay and big one of jay-z’s first songs had Clark Kent (Can’t Get Wit That).
