Ernie Davis Rocked Nike?

Ernie Davis StatueErnie Davis who led Syracuse to the national title in 1959 and was the first black Heisman trophy winner in history was enshrined Saturday. The statue which was un-veiled has Ernie rocking some Nike’s and a modern day helmet, now the helmet is one issue but another is this. Nike wasn’t even formed when Davis played in college during his tenure. The sculptor said he was given details and football gear that would be true to the the legendary figure.

Controversy has stirred up and some are calling to have the shoes removed and to make the image of the statue more accurate. Check the pictures, what do you guys think?

Dear Nice Kicks readers, fans, and supporters:

Over the weekend, the Gulf Coast was hit by Hurricane Ike causing death and destruction to the region. Nice Kicks has donated $1,000 to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help our friends and neighbors affected by the unfortunate events of the past few days. Finances permitting, please donate what you can to help those in need. If everyone can help out with as little as a $10 donation, much can be accomplished. Please help us help others and spread the word amongst friends and family to donate.

Event :New Niketown opened in Oregon with Tinker

Nike NiketownEugene , Oregon is basically the running capital of the world if you don’t know the history behind it I suggest a little more reading for you. This past weekend they opened up a new store dedicated to basketball and football with of course some running footwear and clothes in there. Well fellow ISS board member niners819 was there to take some shots of the event, pictures after the jump.

The two “X”’s in the shoes also mark the twenty years the Cal Surf shop has been in business. Baron Davis signs with Li-Ning

Vans Skate Hi Cargo BeigeYes the rumors are true ladies and gentlemen Baron Davis has left planet Reebok for Chinese Sportswear conglomerate Li-Ning. The company which takes it’s name from founder Li-Ning better known as “the guy who was suspended by cables and lit the olympic torch”, has been making big strides in recruiting NBAers to their roster.

Reebok Basketball has been on a bit of a skid lately in the basketball arena with fewer and fewer All-Stars wearing their products. Li-Ning has stepped up it’s marketing muscle by signing Davis who will now play in a huge market in Los Angeles and will have his own signature sneaker with Li-Ning something Reebok never got done.
