Adidas Torsion Bank Shot
On the heels of the news yesterday about the Torsion series returning we have received some detailed photos of the Adidas Torsion Bank Shot - one of Adidas’ first basketball shoes to feature the Torsion System.
The shoes come correct in a simple white/blue/grey colorway just like they did almost two decades ago. Just like the originals the shoes sport the yellow Torsion bar across the sole connecting the forefoot to the heel with added support. Look for these to hit stores in early January of 2009. adidas Metro Attitude “Knicks”
Next year Adidas is hitting us hard in the month of January with the return of some of the greatest sneakers to feature the Torsion stability system, but also a shoe that never gets old no matter how many times it comes back - the Metro Attitude. This shoe is a staple item in many closets in NYC, but the shoe that Ewing wore while still with The Three Stripes is catching on in many markets outside of New York.
Adidas takes us backs in a varsity colorup that is very similar to the ones Pat Ewing wore while crashing the boards for the Knicks in the mid 80s, but there are a few differences such as blue accents on the faux netting on the ankles and trefoil. If you want to see the originals, we posted them several weeks ago as a Throwback Thursday: Original Ewing Adidas Attitude. Info about new release from Overkill. |
Throwback Thursday: Adidas Artillery Lite Mid
Since we just got the news about the return of Adidas Torsion classics such as the Adidas Bank Shot, I wanted to pull something out from the pile that would be relevant. Torsion came in the late 80s but is still used in Adidas footwear today. Through many adaptations the system can be found in shoes ranging in use from running to tennis to even cleats. Torsion became a staple “must have” in basketball shoes since its first use and one of the shoes that can best be remembered for this is the early 90’s Adidas Artillery series.
This pair that we had is from 1992 and at the time was worn by many collegiate athletes. More specifically, the Adidas Artillery Lite Mid was something more universal as a team shoe than other heavyweight hightops of its day. Not long after this shoe came the introduction of Adidas Equipment that borrowed the tough TPU cage on the side of the shoes that give the shoe a better hold across the foot and lateral stability. On the sole you can see the Torsion System connecting the heel to the forefoot with signatory cut aways of the sole at the middle of the foot. This gave the shoe extra flexibility but maintaining the support necessary to prevent injuries. Throwback Thursday took a little break as the luck of the draw had me traveling on the fourth day of each week for a while, but keep it locked here each Thursday for something great that should not be forgotten. |
Adidas Originals 2009 Torsion Preview

Adidas is celebrating the ZX series this year in a three release aZX Project that gives 24 of the top shops, artists, and tastemakers to interpret timeless ZX silhouettes how they see fit. The latter part of ZX series, namely the ZX 7000, 8000, and 9000, were some of the first Adidas Running shoes to feature the Torsion System. The Torsion System provides midfoot support that allows the forefoot and heel to move independently for better surface adaptation and stability. Torsion is also lightweight and allows designers to remove extra rubber from the sole in the middle of the shoe cutting down even more on the weight of the sneaker.
Starting in January, Adidas will bring back some of the early shoes that used the Torsion system. On the running side Adidas brings us the ZX 7000, ZX 8000, ZX 9000, and Torsion Racer. Adidas also is bringing back the first Torsion basketball shoe, Adidas Torsion Bank Shot, and a high top for the ladies, the Adidas Torsion Sleek.
This lineup of shoes is expected to arrive at Overkill in early January of 2009.

Adidas 4 Elements of Hip Hop - B Boy
Through the next two seasons adidas is celebrating the roots of hip hop with the 4 Elements of Hip Hop collection of sneakers and apparel inspired by DJ’s, MC’s, Graffiti Artists, and B-Boys.
The first set of kicks focuses on the B-Boy with a collection anchored by the adidas Decade High and complimented by two pairs of shell-toes. The Decade High sports a cardboard upper that represents the early day B-Boys who broke it down on sidewalks. Look for these to start hitting adidas originals doors later this month. More shots after the jump provided by Complex. |
Crooked Tongues adidas ZX 9000

Adidas has much in store for us over the next few months with the aZX Project. The ZX classics have been interpretted by a powerful punch of 24 influencers including many shops from around the globe, but one of the shoes retooled was done by a name not affixed to a brick and mortar store - Crooked Tongues.
Very much an authority in the sneaker world, Crooked Tongues was called upon to interpret the ZX 9000 how they see fit. The shoe features a mix of charcoal, light grey, and yellow across the shoe, but the most noticeable touch is the carbon fiber look on the rear TPU. The Crooked Tongues adidas ZX 9000 will release in the third set of the aZX series on October 8th. Photos thanks to spiritfingers from CrookedTongues.
Kicks on Court: Team USA in Olympics
Earlier today Team USA finished off group play with a commanding victory over Germany just like all of their prior games in Beijing. Just before we head off into the medal round, we thought it would be a good time to take a quick minute to take a quick look at the great kicks the team wore on court.
Several of the team members with signature sneakers were treated with special Olympic colorups for the Games while other Nike team members proudly wore the Nike Hyperdunk. Dwight Howard, as you probably know, was the only team member not in the Nike family. Take a look after the jump of our favorites to date. |
