The Story Behind the Design
Not only is Teyana into collecting sneakers, she is also an avid basketball fan. Her favorite sneakers are all high top, chunky built shoes. However, she struggles to cop every shoe she desires due to her diminutive 5.5 youth sized feet. When describing how she came up with the design of her sneaker, TT says, “I kind of wanted a basketball sneaker for women. I feel like us girls stand in line for Jordans and LeBrons, but it?s a 50/50 thing. Either it comes in your size, or it doesn?t. So when I first came up with the design for the sneakers, it was like ?ok, I need to do something for women.? I want men standing in line hoping that the sneaker comes in their size. We need it, just for once, because we never get anything, a pretty cool sneaker.” adidas provided sketches of the adidas Originals GLC (pictured above), and she added her personal touch.
The gold colorway, however, is not overtly feminine on purpose. Citing that pink and purple hues are not quite her style, she feels the metallic gold coloring satisfies her desire for “something a little grittier.” Most importantly, Teyana proudly states, “It represents me.”
