16-Year-Old Kid Shot & Killed over Air Jordans

Sixteen-year-old Juan Reyna was gunned down inside a neighbor?s home last week in Houston, TX. According to his father, the violence erupted during an argument over a pair of Air Jordans Reyna had recently purchased from the alleged gunman, nineteen-year-old Yusef Villanueva.

While the crime is still under investigation, Yusef Villanueva has been charged with murder despite his initial claims that his gun went off by accident.

Juan Reyna will be buried today on what would have been his seventeenth birthday.

The real issue is consumerism. We value material things more than we value life, especially in a society where we are individualistic and taught to think about ourselves.

IMO I believe regardless if they did made more it still would be violence when I was a kid they had more pairs on the store than what they have now and people still rob people because its a jealousy issue some people reward there kids by buying them what they want that being a pair of jordans or an IPHONE you shouldn't be afraid to wear or have the things you own in public.

Why can't we all just grow up and learn to realize that a shoe is just a freaken shoe in general, a material object will always be a material object and will ware away in time. Lets just remember that what we sneaker heads have to learn that at the end, our collection is not going with us when we die. R.I.P To this young man and my Prayers go out to his family.

maybe Nike/Jordan will start Releasing their shoes in Greater numbers so they are not so damn hard to get.  Then there would be no reason to lineup or fight for Js.

Ok how many of yall actually read the story and not just the heading? The19 yo shot the kid over a pair of jordans which was his neighbor and not a stranger on the street who saw him in a pair of Jordans he wanted. This would have happened over a video game, baseball card, clothes, ect...  because the 19 yo who isn't old enough to own a gun 1st off nor is responsible to be holding one secondly! Gun control is the problem not Jordans some people just don't use common sense and its the real problem because you guys can actually vote!

this why the price and availability of certain Jays should not be soo limited because it just makes a target for people that can afford to get em or willing to spend that guap.

Wow, I'm 28 years old and I remember reading about incidents like this happening in DC, NY, Chicago, etc . I could've sworn we left that back in the 90's.  And here I was starting to think we as society and culture (Sneaker enthusiast) had grown out of that violent savage mentality; but I guess it's true what they say. "History always repeats itself".

SMH. When will these kids learn that it's just not worth it. A young life taken, and another thrown away over rubber and leather.

@tye24s don't make more shoes that ruins the point of collecting them; you buy shoes because they're nice and hard to get if you make more shoes than they lose their value. I think it's crazy though that you get killed over shoes but, thats not the problem it's kids with guns.

dezzie79
dezzie79

 @Laced_Heat Did u see what shoes they were or are you adding your 2 cents that isn't even needed? jordan grey 4's which were released I don't know when not this year or last year. Sick of fools blaming the shoe when it was starter caps and jackets in the 90's getting kids killed by fools who didn't need to have a gun. Hence gun control is the problem then and the problem now. stop masking the real problem!

History wouldn't be repeating itself in this case if parents actually parented and were involved in their kids life and knew what kind of person they are. They should know if they're the type of kid that might want a gun and be hiding a gun in his room. Or they should know that their kid knows where they keep their gun, and make sure he ABSOLUTELY KNOWS THERE WILL BE MAJOR CONSEQUENCES FOR TOUCHING IT UNSUPERVISED. If it was the parents' gun, then what the hell were they teaching that little idiot??? That its ok to solve arguments by pulling out a gun and threatening someone with it or even using it??? New law: if your child who is a minor shoots someone with YOUR gun, then you as his parent will also additionally serve a sentence equal to half of your child's sentence because you obviously didn't raise him right and then decided to leave easily accessible guns in your home that your unstable child could find and use.

 @UGH Thank the blog sites for the down fall of the sneaker game.  Constantly feeding the masses with "Epic" views and giving info on kicks almost a year in advance has completely changed the way we purchase, collect, and behave at every release.  Sadly, I don't think the old way will ever return.

 @ChrisYang  @tye24s

These are rubber and leather my dude. Collecting kicks is some new fangled non-sense. I'm 31 and have always loved sneakers. It's not about collecting or being hard to get because the shoes you so cherish ie. (Bred XI's) were GR releases not once but twice. So making more shoes in this consumer climate may be a good idea. As for the violence thats something we can control. The companies would get the picture if we stopped buying them. 160-225 dollar kicks are ridiculous and is taking advantage of the die hard consumer along with the wanna-be's. Some who can't afford them may turn to crime to acquire the shoes. We all know Nike and Jordan aren't doing much about it so that leaves it up to us to make some changes. God forbid someone who comments on this page may be a victim and in my eyes that is not expectable . Like I said rubber and leather are not equivalent to flesh and bone, but as long as people are willing to line up, camp out and in some cases kill for their shoes the companies will carry on business as usual. We need to do something, its truly in our hands.

 @dezzie79  dropped in 04, regardless, it says "a pair of air jordan sneakers like these" which in my interpretation, could mean another 4 release recently, or maybe just a pair of jz in general, if your so dumb, you will kill someone else over a pair of shoes, schooling and parental guidance is the problem, educate these young kids on its not worth doing life over a pair of fking shoes...

js21345
js21345

Why dont we just get rid of everything that  valuable that people want.  Lets get rid of money bc its too limited...Stupid crime but regardless what happens ppl are going to kill each other over stupid stuff

MartinD44

 @Lusinmader  @UGH

 Yea dumbass. I read these sneaker websites to find out about releases and you know what??? By some miracle, I'm not going around shooting people and behaving violently. I must be the exception! No man. These sites have nothing to do with the trash out there who decide they'd rather acquire their kicks by robbing, hurting someone, or both. First, guns shouldn't be readily available for these idiotic individuals like they are. Second, their parents failed at teaching their kids the value of human life.

 @Lusinmader  @UGH You do realize how stupid you look blaming the blog sites while on what is basically a blog site right? Late entry for idiotic statement of the year.

dezzie79

 @Lusinmader  @UGH  You sound like a fool blaming websites like they gave that gun to anyone under 21! The problem is gun control you idiots! Why don't you blame the parents or blame the school system for not teaching kids right between wrong.

MartinD44
MartinD44

 @dezzie79  @Snpdo

 Yea he was probably pointing the gun at the kid in the middle of  an argument over a deal gone wrong, and either pulled the trigger on purpose or by accident. In my eyes it doesn't matter. You pull a gun on a kid, and you've already crossed the line of innocence. 'Why does he have a gun?' and 'where did he get it?' are unfortunately becoming a daily question in our country. The greatest country in the world, and we're letting kids die at the hands of troubled minds, or other kids who were not taught the proper value of life. This idiot shouldn't have had the gun on him AT ALL. WHAT DOES A 19 YEAR OLD NEED A GUN FOR???? Like every recent gun tragedy, some major emotional event occurred in the shooter's life, and they make a rash,idiotic, and foolish snap decision to hurt others and themselves. If they don't have a gun, then maybe they go get in a fight, or in the worst case scenario they jump off a bridge, but at least they don't harm innocent people or children. We're giving people too much credit to be calm and controlled at all times while owning a gun. Life is turbulent and emotional, and some people's lives are tougher than others. People get broken up with, get cut off on the road, and get fired from their jobs. Everyone will react differently, but its only human to get emotional and upset when these things happen. Having access to a gun when you're emotional and upset is like playing with matches while standing in gasoline. I really thought sneaker violence was over-blown and exaggerated, but I've read of 3 different shootings over sneakers over the past 2 days, and 2 of them have lead to fatalities of teenagers. TEENAGERS. People: TEACH YOUR KIDS THERE IS NEVER A REASON TO COMMIT MURDER! Teach them to value life and human life above everything else. Teach them to only use violence as a last resort. Some dads out there are reckless SOBs who teach their kids how to fight and use violence early, and those guys need to be neutered and sterilized. Because while they may not be producing the mass murderers out of their children, they are producing people who think violence is an answer to problems, and those same kids can also be the bullies who pick on the loners who eventually turn into the mass murderers. Gun control and better parenting. DO IT

dezzie79
dezzie79

 @Snpdo thats all I was really saying guns in the hands of young under developed minds is the problem because this kid would still be alive had the 19yo not had a gun. Robbing your neighbor's kid, I doubt he was doing that the gun probably went off by accident but he still should pay for it with jail time.

 @js21345 thank u thats all i was saying stupid people do stupid things its not jordans fault he signed a deal with nike in 85 before this kid was even sperm in his daddies sack. Stop blaming nike and jordan for idiots doing idiotic things
