This Day In Sneaker History: Michael Jordan’s Game-Winning Shot in ’82 NCAA Final

Basketball - NCAA Tournament - North Carolina vs. Georgetown.

March 29, 1982, will forever be marked as the day “A Star Was Born.” 19 year-old Freshman guard, Michael Jordan nailed the game-winning shot with 16 seconds remaining to defeat a dominant Georgetown Hoya team in the 1982 NCAA Championship. While we tend to think Michael was forever loyal to Nike and Jordan Brand on the court, Jordan actually spent the beginning of his collegiate career establishing his dominance in the Converse Pro Leather. Watch as associate editor George Kiel III explains the tale of how a shoe that was originally popularized by Julius “Dr. J” Erving, owes a portion of its prestige to MJ as well.
