Nike MAG Officially Unveiled

Nike Mag

“This project is exciting to me because it brings together three very passionate audiences: the Parkinson’s community, the sneakerheads and Back to the Future fans.” – Michael J. Fox.

A few moments ago, Nike officially unveiled the Nike Air Mag AKA “Marty McFly” shoe. As stated earlier, Nike announced that 1500 pairs of this shoe will be auctioned on eBay, nikemag.eBay.com, with all net proceeds going directly to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The auction will begin tonight at 8:30PM PST and end on September 18 (150 pairs will be posted on eBay per day for 10 days). The Nike Air Mag has been anticipated for the longest as it first showed its face in the 1989 2015 released film Back to the Future.

Leading up to the release of the Nike Air Mag, a 50 million match grant was given to the Michael J. Fox Foundation by Sergey Brin and Anne Wojcicki; they will match all donations to the foundation, up to 50 million dollars, through the end of 2012.

“We wanted to translate the excitement people have for the ‘greatest shoe never made’ and for the Back to the Future into positive action,” said Mark Parker, CEO of Nike. “But the long term objective is to raise awareness so the Foundation can achieve their goal of eradicating Parkinson’s disease.

The Air Mag is the first rechargeable footwear from Nike were designed as an identical replica to the originals seen in the Back to the Future II movie. Some of the constant elements include the upper contours, the glowing LED panel and the electroluminescent Nike logo in the strap. The Nike Air Mag actually illuminates with the pinch of the “ear” of the high top, glowing for five hours per charge.

What are your preliminary thoughts on the Nike Air Mag?

    1. Marcus says:

Nike gonna make big money off these!

      1. Anonymous says:

It all goes to charity. ?Nike’s not making anything.

        1. dlozano23 says:

so they say.? “all ‘net’ proceeds going directly…”? Net proceeds doesnt mean all. they still need to make back all production costs.

          1. kljlkjk says:

Wow! Making back production costs? Nike is making some big money off of these!

          2. Claytongrant says:

Sooo, They’re not going to make ‘big money off these’ then are they..

          3. jt says:

you’re not very smart, dl.. huh.

          4. Urban Lawyer says:

Which actually makes them revenue neutral. Lets be realistic here, Nike have done a very good and clever thing here and will end up making the MJF Foundation a lot of money.

I will be winning one of those auctions!

          5. guest says:

The people making them only get a nickel a day so production costs probably isn’t that high. LOL

          6. 123bill says:

you are an ignorant shit head

          7. Slaveowner says:

A nickel my ass more like a nickel a week, get your facts right

          8. Killer says:

all yall need to shut the fuck up i go a pair already

          9. Anonymous says:

“all ‘net’ proceeds going directly…” That’s everything dumbass…

          10. testing says:

gross means everything.. net means profit.. or moneys acquired after all related cost are covered

          11. Anonymous says:

As far as I can tell right now, that’s several thousand dollars per pair.

          12. Ggguy says:

the pair cost change from $4000-$5800 depending on your shoe size from 7-13 (men)

          13. BOBERT1000BIGGESTFAN says:

Net means after everyone has been paid
Gross means everything Bobert1000 LOOKS LIKE YOUR THE DUMBASS, DUMBASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO YOU TRIED TO CHOMP SOMEONE OFF AND YOU WERE WRONG I GOT A IDEA…………………….KILL YOSELF

          14. Guest says:

LOL Gee, i’m sure they’ve spent a fortune making these shoes.

          15. GUEST says:

            ESTIMATED AT 300.00 PER PAIR

          16. Guest says:

And the rest… first 150 are hovering at about $7,000 after just 12 hours on eBay. Still another 8hrs to go.?

          17. “all?proceeds”?means any PROFIT made will go to the charity. The price of producing the shoes will be taken out and any remaining money will be donated. “all NET proceeds” means that ALL the money made, INCLUDING the price of production of the sneakers will go to charity. Nike Is donating all NET proceeds. That means everything. Every cent. That means they are actually LOSING money by doing this…..you idiot.

          18. Fartington says:

“all proceeds” referred to as “net” is not the same as “gross”. ??

NET proceeds are whatever is left after the GROSS proceeds are made and any fees or deductions for whatever costs incurred are covered. ?In other words, it specifically does not mean ‘that means everything. ?every cent’.

There is a distinct difference between gross profit and net profit.

          19. Migssy says:

Jesse, I’m not sure where you get your definitions from, but “net” means the remainder, after certain costs are deducted.?
In fact, “all proceeds” means “all money raised” goes to charity. “Net proceeds” means all money raised minus any costs incurred to raise the money (manufacturing and the costs of selling).

          20. smarterthanyou says:

You’re wrong.? Net proceeds is the total income minus expenses.?Gross proceeds?would include total income before paying expenses.

          21. Jordantsteuart says:

Dude you’ve got to be joking ?now… you honestly just said: “NET proceeds DOESN’T mean all”….
Net means all.. that’s like, the definition of net you dumbass. get off the internet.

          22. Edner says:

net .. doesn’t include tax (which goes to the govt) and shipping and handling .. nike doesn’t see a cent?

          23. Tdwarner says:

            i took acct 210 also… debits on one side… credits on the other…. :)

        2. …just because they are initially launching 1500 pairs on ebay does not mean they will not be releasing them in mass volume at a later date … I can’t see them going to all this trouble to release a completely elite-est product …. its called publicity … and what better then this to get the ball rolling …. ?

          1. A Tony Rix says:

Think of the advertising for the Brand! they will they can and hopefully they dont :-( ?

          2. NIKECEO says:

          3. Ec239 says:

Are you retarded? There are no power laces coming out in 2015. It’s a?tongue-in-cheek reference to the movie.

          4. yoitzvin says:

Uhhh wrong! Didn’t you read the article awhile back that was basically everywhere, including yahoo and msn, that Nike had just patented the technology with the US Patent.
And they said they ARE going to release them 2015 in honor of the movie.
Do your research before you post bro

          5. Ec239 says:

I did read the articles, and between the logistics of the product?actually working on a mass scale, and Blake Bevin’s competing patent (and the litigation that will follow), I think the reason that they’re releasing the Air Mag now is obvious. So, save your money waiting for 2015 bro, just means more for me now…

        3. Uranotherdumbass says:

You are WRONG!!!!!!!!!! All the net goes to charity Net means after everyone else has been paid. It even says it in the press release.

          1. Anonymous says:

It doesn’t matter. ?Net or gross. ?Back to my original point, Nike is not getting rich off of these shoes. ?Stop over analyzing it to death.

        4. Damian says:

lol it doesnt matter if it all goes to charity. Nike is still gonna make a bunch of money with tax write-offs. at the expense of limited edition shoes that ill never get..

        5. Abidorina says:

charity’s my wifes name…kinda like that

        6. Debora Amado says:

          hahaahahhahahahahahah ok!!!

      2. Yaggas says:

I believe tht! come on to those sayin otherwise.. its a nice thought and reason to auction but I dont think that the press conferences, show set-ups, and editorial writers flying to LA last minute is all to put money in JUST the foundations hands.. Not tryin to be a salty a**hole cause I cant camp out for these aand pay MSRP but lots of foundations have these “scandals”.. but on side note got 1500 ready for my pair! ;)

        1. Dickydoo911 says:

          $1500? sorry?insufficient?funds.?

        2. Michaelsep742 says:

          Lmao dumbass ^

      3. Timmy912 says:

        1. Jacob Norris says:

shut up. you cant even type a proper sentence.?

          1. Timmy912 says:

so u would wear these go go gadgets?

    2. Anonymous says:

wooow , this is awesome ,I just got a $829.99 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for. I use http://fun.ly/wf2z

    3. Anonymous says:

Whether they make money or not. It’s a donation… They’ll write it off in their taxes…. Nike never loses. :-/

      1. Timmy912 says:

instead of putting this money to fighting cancer thy make the worlds ugliest shoe

    4. J Godfrey83 says:

Pharmaceutical companies dont want to?cure Parkinsons disease. They?can make more money?off?of people dying from it. Disease is a big money maker. They will never find a cure because they dont want one. You people are blind.

      1. William Wade says:

But the one that finds the cure will make billions from it, and eat up the?competitions?market before the patent has worn off and they’ve had chance to see it.

  1. Drizzy Drake says:

    so thats it. no GR?

    1. Anonymous says:

      wow good question… read

    2. Kwllkiddere says:

that wouldn’t make it valuable anyways im bidding

  2. Michealjfoxxytrox says:

It’s for a good cause, but why not mass produce more pair. & why ebay cmon now, resellers… not a good idea but whatever i must get me a pair

    1. Schleeve13 says:

having them on EBAY should discourage resellers..

      1. Bigbizwinsagain says:

Nike is just doing what all the people who wait in line do, they finally got smart and figured it out, they see how much money there were losing to people selling on ebay after quickstrikes, you thought they were hard to get then wait until all the new quickstrikes come out, many big companies are doing this now

    2. Anonymous says:

Ain’t gonna be to many resellers. Cuz their gonna sell for a ridiculous price so it’s value is pretty much gonna be what their bought for.

    3. Reboyo says:

If they’re doing what I think they’re doing, these first 1500 pairs will probably be numbered, so they’ll be those ever so?collectible rare numbered sets (which makes more sense to get them to the collectors through ebay than randomly at 1 store) ?then later on they’ll mass produce them for others that want them as shoes or slightly less collectible non numbered sets.?

  19. Jfmcomic says:

    Power laces?

    1. 2015powerlaces says:

      nope in 2015 they will

      1. Ec239 says:

There are no power laces coming out in 2015. It’s a reference to the movie.

        1. William Wade says:

Nike do own a (maybe a few?) patents to power lacing.

          1. Ec239 says:

            True, true…
