Can an artist be street but sweet? Can a woman wear men?s clothes and still be a sex symbol and style icon? Both seemed near impossible to the mainstream until Aaliyah came along. Talent, confidence, individuality, and a genuine heart made her loved by the masses and the perfect person for change. When a young Aaliyah stepped on the scene she was known for rocking baggy clothing, sunglasses, and often sneakers. On the red carpet and in video she sported a variety of sneakers from classic Pumas to trail runners of the time. For the 1996 MTV Rock-n-Jock Basketball game she showed up in the Nike Air More Uptempo. Later on she?d rock Uptempos on the red carpet and become the originator of all-black-everything. Ten years and one day after her death she?s still more than a woman and hardly forgotten.
