Throwback Thursday: Nike Air Up

Nike Air Up

Penny Hardaway had one of the illest signature sneaker lines of all time. ?Though short lived in large part due to injury, we were given 5 great Penny sigs over the course of 4 seasons. ?But before Nike started lacing Penny in shoes that sported his name it wasn’t like this young guy was wear skips. ?In the 1994-95 season a 23 year old Penny and stacked Orlando Magic got past Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls and MJ in the Playoffs and made it all the way to the finals. ?Throughout the year Penny wore a handful of shoes including the Nike Air Flight One, Nike Go LWP, and this, the Nike Air Up. ?Though not officially part of the Penny line, the shoe came in a PE colorway that sported his jersey number on the back and came in his team’s colors.

Nike has shown much love to Penny over the past couple of years with bring backs that include the Penny II and Penny III, a remix 1/2 Cent, the Go LWP this holiday season, and upcoming Penny I and Foamposite in the original Royal next spring. ?But with all of that, no Nike Air Ups on the calendar. ? One can only hope.

Damn I wanted these so bad, I had a pair of the home orlando color but the black n blue was was fire! And for the record that pic is from the regular season, not the playoffs, penny wore the “Nike air flight 1″ in the playoffs

Those are the Jordan 10’s lil nicca, he was still playing baseball when those released. So he barely wore them.

I never had these, but I remember wanting them, I especially liked the air up logo on the tongue, I think I got the Air Max 95 instead when I was hounding my mom for another pair of sneakers for school that year.

I rocked a pair of these for intermurals back in college! I had the black/white/royal pair. One of the beat ball shoes I’ve ever rocked. And looked extra fresh on chill-mode.

i’m thrilled that the foams are coming, but personally i always favored these air ups. these penny editions right here and the scottie pippen versions with the number 33 on the back. that shoe was just all-around nice.

I was the only person in my highschool to have these and they always turned heads. I wish they would bring em back so I can turn heads all over again.

    MATT,
THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU’VE FINALLY FULFILLED MY REQUEST AND MY PRAYERS !!!!!! I’VE BEEN ASKING TO SEE THESE ON THROWBACK THURS. FOR FOREVER NOW.

THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SHOE (IN THE WHITE, BLACK, AND BLUE (NOT THE PIPPEN CW)) WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SNEAKER. THESE AND THE FLIGHT ONE. “THE EARLY PENNY SNEAKER YEARS,” ARE BY FAR THE BEST SIGNATURE LINE EVER. (JORDAN’S LINE DIDN’T GET HOT TILL THE 3)
EVERYTIME I CALL NIKE SPECIAL ORDERS LINE I ALWAYS TELL THEM TO MAKE NOTE TO RETRO THE “AIR UP” I SWEAR TO THE MAN UPSTAIRS I’VE DONE IT OVER 50-60 TIMES…..STILL NOTHING. I APPRECIATE THE HELP MATT…!!!!

Nice Matt, definitely my favorite out of the pre penny line. Got this colorway and the white/black/blue that I wear on the regular. I love that they are still wearable.
